I have a Mirage 5000 motorhome and wanted to check what the position would be if the windscreen ever needed replacing. I have attached a photo and am trying to work out what the markings mean.

So we have

SAINT-GOBIN SEKURIT - Which is the manufacturer

DOT 39 is Saint -Gobin
AS 1 - AS number
M 21 - Model number assigned by Saint Gobin
II - Type of glass - Refgular Multiple Layer Windscrren
E2 in circle is France

So is the 43R - 000386 a screen reference number?

and the ...4 ??

All advice/help welcomed

Interesting, sorry cannot help but will have a look at the screen in our old Pilote A class to make a note of any numbers.

The 43R number shows compliance with European satefy standard ECE R43, with the digits after 43R showing the registration number.

The ...4 is the manufacture date code, with the dots showing the month (March) and the 4 showing the year (1994, 2004 or 2014, etc.)

So would it be reasonable to say that the "M21" model number is all that would be required if ever in need of replacement?

Both the AS and M numbers refer to standards and glass characteristics, not the specific part.
There are no reference numbers on the glass that identify the specific product itself.
The vehicle manufacturer will have their own product code for the glass, and all the companies who manufacture the glass will have their own internal codes for it, but none of these are on the glass.
The most useful product code will be the OE code (vehicle manufacturers code) which everything should link back to. I may have this in one of my databases, I'll check and come back to you....

What year is your vehicle?

I would think the windscreen replacement company would deal with that side of things if you required a screen.

I am sure they would.

I just want to make sure that it is a potential issue in the future.

I guess that the windscreen is not specific to our motorhhome and that it wouldn't be an issue going forward.

I believe that the product code for your windscreen is 90.03.184 / MS0105.
As has been said, if you need a replacement screen then whoever does it for you will identify it via your vehicle registration number to be sure, but hopefully this gives you something in case you ever need it.

Thanks for that. I guess my question still remains though, i.e. These screens are not made specifically for the motorhome but are a generic model that will "always" be avialable?

I'll answer the 'generic' and the 'always available' questions seperately....

On the 'generic' point, almost all windscreens are vehicle specific. Some, including yours, fit a small range of models, but not many. Yours is specific to your motorhome and 4 other Mirage motorhome models from around the same time as yours, so it's certainly not generic.

However on the 'always available' question, if there are vehicles on the road then there'll be windscreens available for them or at the very least there'll be someone who has the tooling and can make one. A-class windscreen volumes can be quite low which is why the costs are higher than common units such as Ducatos or Transits, but there are glass manufacturers who specialise in these lower volume motorhome windscreens. There are at least 2 manufacturers who currently make your windscreen, so I wouldn't be concerned about availability.
