Good day all.

Went to Scotland last year. June, I think it was the only week it rained all that summer, anyway cloud burst ln Fort William put a foot long rip in the awning fabric. Does anyone know any good specialist who can either repai or replace the fabric, or last resort replace the whole shebang?

The frame of the awning took a lot of strain that night, but stood its ground personfully. The cassette is 3.5m long. There doesn't seem to be any identifying marks on the outside of the awnind case and I can't check inside because I'm not there just now.

As the van is desperate for a run I'm willing to travel anywhere in UK so if you have any info or ideas all will be gratefully received. Thanks, Mick.

I think you will find the cost of having the fabric replaced is almost as much as a new awning.
Try Hillview Awnings or Rose Awnings.

Once fixed, remember it’s a sunshade. Just in case it should rain, always put one leg shorter than the other for run off.
Although I’m sure you wont make that mistake again!

Just a thought you could try Spinnaka tape it's very thin strong adhesive tape made from ripstock nylon and you have guessed it's for repairing sails.

Great idea thanks, I'll look into it.

Your right Annie, mind you the part I didn't mention was testing the local grog with friends and then sleeping soundly through the most thunderous downpour since Noah. Still, as you say, lesson learned :)

Thanks Lenny, my Mrsdid get in touch with Rose, guy said £440 for fabric replacement and £880 for new awning but the story got a bit confused with Thule and other things, I will give them a bell when I get out of lockdown.

Hi
We had our awning fabric replaced under warranty and the fabric removed is good. It's 4.25m. Has a slight crease but if it's any good to you it's here to collect. No charge.

Thanks Fraggle, have to cut it as my van will only fit 3,5m. Need to figure out how to seal the cut or it would fray. Did you get yours replaced at a main dealer?.

If you're feeling brave you could seal it with a soldering iron assuming nylon fabric.

A man from Thule came to the house. It seemed very simple and quick. Don't think the edges need any sealing. It's here if you want it.

I should imagine Thule awnings, exactly similar to our Fiamma one, the 'fabric' is actually vinyl - ie not woven from anything that can fray?

Exactly. Apart from trimming to width. It has the metal bars top and bottom so only needs sliding into the fittings.

We got our fabric replaced at Oministor in Belgium on the way back from Norway, slept overnight in the car park. It cost €385.00 for 6 metre.

That's a reasonable price Sundowner, do you have an adress?

Mine ripped a couple of weeks ago. Had it replaced by Rose awnings and it was successfully claimed off the insurance who did not quibble about it

Had an email chat with Cassie and Adi at ABM, they are very friendly and are set up to carry out a wide range of motorhome maintenance and repairs. As Dorset is one of my favourite places I will be having a trip down to Weymouth to see what they can do. They asked my to thank you on their behalf for the recommendation. They can be contacted on:

Pass your old one around and we can all get a new one 🙄🙄😂😂

PS ask local scouts where they get their tents repaired. Probably only cost a Bob😂

Yes, I am with Comfort. Phoned them, described what happened (Rugby playing bloke on next pitch saved the day at 0330) and helped prevent damage to the cassette. “Peggy pegs” and Storm ties worked very well by the way, but the front of the awning simply ripped. Told them that I was going to call in to Rose awnings and that I already had confirmation that not repairable and the quoted cost and they asked for photos. Took the photos at Rose, got the replacement done. Sent photos to Aviva as requested and they paid less excess two days later. Top service from both.

Blagged the scrapped material and will make a nice awning skirt to prevent draughts.
