I read so many reports of the various adventures Funsters have, but I'm amazed that most Funsters pay for sites in France, Spain & Morocco. We NEVER pay for sites despite being almost 9m and 5 tons. We don't have a vast library of parking places, we simply park where we think it's OK. Typically, small towns in France usually have a decent car park at the mayor's building, or there's the local supermarket car park. In Spain there are loads of free spaces where trucks park and in Morocco nobody cares where you park as long as you're not an obstruction. One or two nights at these places is fine but if you're there for a week or two someone may ask you to move. Correction, we pay 4 euros per night in Oualidia, Morocco, but only because our friends stay there also.

We like to sit outside and cook. Not every night, but quite often. I’m amazed that people criticise others’ decisions about where they camp. Some people always like to stay on sites, others like never to pay, we like to vary it depending on what we fancy. Surely it’s just a choice?

I think each to his own and why the need to post such a thing
But to answer you question
We like to cook outside have a secure environment
We Put our table and chairs outside
I assume when you park up you sit in the van which is absolutely ok I would for one minute criticise and don’t put your awning out ,tables and chairs if you the spead yourself about then
that’s the behaviour that’s becoming an irritant to locals and where do you dump your waste
It’s just another viewpoint

If you park you sit in the van the whole time great.
Or you go outside and explore the environment you have park in.
Then on return you sit and put your feet up in the van looking out of the window.
Totally agree with you, if you want to sit outside and cook have a fire etc, pull up on a campsite.

No i dinnae

yep do that every day
Then on return you sit and put your feet up in the van looking out of the window.

yes sometimes
Totally agree with you,
who

No thanks , very few campsites allow proper campfires.

Easier to do that in remote locations I've found , Greece usually very good.

Never felt insecure wildcamping , but campsites can be a nightmare for thefts and disputes with neighbours
We Put our table and chairs outside
so do I sometimes , just depends where I'm wildcamping .

but if not theres usually a beach , a park or a woods ...sometimes a picnic area within a few metres to do that on.

but it does seem some like to sit right outside their camper

only in certain placrs. Also if you move away from being sat right next to your vehicle and do as the visitors in cars do ....it makes it much harder to discriminate
and where do you dump your waste

the same place my dogs dump theirs 😁 like folk did before cassette toilets were invented 😁
It’s just another viewpoint

because if everyone with a motorhome did that you nor i would find any place to park off site because theyd be full ....so probably best to just accept different folk like different things.
We NEVER pay for sites despite being almost 9m and 5 tons. We don't have a vast library of parking places, we simply park where we think it's OK.

so do i ....but its becoming increasingly more difficult. ...so dont crow because in a few years you may not be able to.

not resorted to a supermarket carpark unless incredibly desperate .
In Spain there are loads of free spaces where trucks park

that's becoming much harder due to folk taking the piss
and in Morocco nobody cares where you park as long as you're not an obstruction.

Thats actually far from the truth , theres some places you can do this but police do hassle you as do locals begging and trying to sell you stuff and many places are absolutely covered in rubbish and filth

Theres actually a few decent free spaces outside oualidia...if you can find them 😁

Nothing wrong with a good old wilding vs campsites vs aires vs tescos car park thread!! Let the "Fun" commence I say. :ROFLMAO:

Its a long while since I have been proper "touring" until this year. Before the pandemic in fact. Our trips are usually about six months over summer but in recent years, regular spots in the UK. This year though we have had a month or so on the Isle of Arran and three months in France. Back to the UK on Sunday and off to Dorset and Devon.

What I have realised is the thing I crave the most now is fabulous locations, space and peace and quiet. One things for sure neither campsites or Aires in mid summer in France provide that. Well some do but not many. Which leaves wild camping (Ill ignore Tescos or Intermarche car park :D ). Wild camping to me is finding somewhere like this. Absolute bliss which is why its my preferred option over all of the above.

I think that you have the wrong thread title as the words Wild and Camping do not apply to supermarket car parks and lorry parks. At least you don’t have to carry chairs around with you.

Good for you.

We like sites for the facilities and security.

I wouldn't like to spend my 2-3 months holidays in car parks or laybys thank you.

We offgrid most of the time.
We just use common sense. If we are in the middle of nowhere and alone yes we do put our chairs outside. Also if the locals are doing it, we do as well.
Current view from an accepted park up in Portugal.
We are the only van here.

Read the post I replied to please.

I had read it but even Jofang did say in Morocco you can park anywhere and said in France village CPs, with which I agree as twice we stopped at Benoit-sur-Loire where the village CP is at the edge, surrounded on 3 sides by fields and frees, and there are many like that.
