Wild campers moved from Chicken šŸ“ Maria

48 hour rules don't apply.
This is Barragem da Rocha.
We were all booked into the restaurant 8 of us so she lost over šŸ’Æ Euro.

We were moved from Alvor on a Friday afternoon (stayed over on the previous night); coincidence?

Is a Friday thing?

Ian

That has been going on for a while since the site just around the corner opened.

Were the people just parked there just parked or did they have steps/ chairs out etc.?

The police tried to move us on from there probably about 3 years ago, I had a (very polite and friendly) conversation with them about it was camping that was not allowed and as we were not (even our electric step was in) could we stay the night as we were using the restaurant and they said yes.

At the time you could tell they were fed up of the doing the campsite owners bidding but weā€™re obviously under pressure to do it. Of course things might have changed now šŸ˜Š

Big twin ____ where did you have to go.

There wasnā€™t a mandated place to go but we just headed to Lagos Stadium since we knew there would be space there.

If itā€™s not an ā€˜authorised placeā€™ then you will be moved on, if itā€™s in a national park area, you will be moved on, in some places other than the above you may be allowed 48 hrs in one municipality. If there are signs prohibiting motorhomes, you will be moved on. ( and/or fined)
Those are the rules in Portugal.
In general, wild camping is frowned upon and now legislated against.ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦donā€™t shoot the messengeršŸ˜˜

btwā€¦..campsites and Aires and Camperstops are businesses toošŸ˜‰

But using police to 'encourage' customers to use any commercial outlet is not a 'free market'

bigtwin- thanks for that - it may be possible to teach an old dog new tricks!
at Lagos stadium- did you notice if parking is being allowed in the outfield or just in the designated line up?

Not sure what you mean by ā€œthe designated line upā€ but itā€™s the area marked in green on map screenshot below:

@]bigtwin[/USER]- the original parking at the stadium was just a straight line ,from the toilet emptying to the end of the football stadium. - that was the official parking.
then it became normal for vans to park outside this area - the "outfield", i just wanted to know if it seemed that vans were allowed to park outside of the "designated" space?
it makes a difference if you are travelling there late. thanks

Ah, ok.
In fact, the area that you describe as the designated parking is actually barriered off. The services are not operable but there are services at the BP station across the bridge a mile or so from the stadium.

Iā€™ve been passing the stadium parking for the past few weeks and over the course of the last few days EVERY motorhome which was parked outside of the ā€˜line upā€™ has now been moved and itā€™s completely empty, the only motorhomes parked there now are in the designated ā€˜line upā€™

That was the status yesterday evening šŸ‘

The designated line up was closed for a long time. I would be interested to know if it's open now. We seem to have 2 conflicting views above.

The access from the main road end is barriered off but it can still be accessed via the opposite end (i.e. by travelling through the car park towards the river). When we were there no MHs were parked in the barriered off area (though many went to the (also closed off) service area to dump grey water (and some were also dumping their cassettes under a drain cover)).

There was probably close to a hundred vans in the large car park area when we were there. It was our first visit so didnā€™t appreciate that the car park wasnā€™t actually the aire.

I passed there on Thursday and the large stadium car park and also the ā€˜line upā€™ was completely empty, no motorhomes there at all.

sorry- i do not understand this. i was asking about parking TODAY at the stadium.
is it officially open?

Itā€™s not looking good by all accounts but unless youā€™re lucky enough to hear from someone whoā€™s been there today, itā€™s the best youā€™re going to get.

ā€¦ā€¦..and theres the first clueā€¦ā€¦.and as soon as one finds a way round, or moves a barrier, the hoards arriveā€¦ā€¦.soon to be followed by GNR. ( the cop shop is right opposite!!!)

GNR doing their job! The aire is closed, the car park is not an aire, nor a designated place.

is it officially open?
NO! Been closed since the first lockdown in 2020 and like many others is now closed.

As a first time visitor, it was not obvious that there was two distinct areas. Consequently, it wasnā€™t obvious that the Aire part was closed (there were no notices to that effect), only that access to the services was barriered off.

The cops are clearly aware of the usage of the car park as they walk past it regularly. It strikes me that using the car park as an aire is clearly tolerated as the cops only clear it occasionally. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
