So at 1.50 a Litre for diesel what will it cost to fill your motorhome in the UK from empty to full and what sort of mileage would you expect from this full to empty tank.:rolleyes::rolleyes::censored:

It was £1.39 a gallon in 1990 so i'm guessing you're posting from 1992 , what's it like back there, a much nicer place

Vary rough guess, mine would cost me around 6p a mile so when I see my motorway turn off sigh for one mile ahead, I know it is going to cost me 6p to get there:giggle:.

Impossible. No internet then
Oh yes there was, but not in every house and the phone in your pocket. I remember it well due to what I was doing to earn a living

Tim Berners-Lee supposedly invented it in 1989, but a version predates that, which was used by Military Intelligence. I remember being sat in a data lab back then using the world wide web and thinking that it would be the future eventually. Even those few that used it back then had no way to envision the speed at which it developed. I remember monthly updates of what was in the pipeline of development, with anticipated dates for rollout. Looking back, you could see the acceleration in the speed of development and over a matter of a few years, the increase of data speeds. You had to be patient back then, and what took minutes to send or receive back then is a matter of the blink of an eye now.

What most people refer to as "The Internet" as in instant access to everything, anywhere is a fairly recent evolution though and it is still evolving if at a slightly slower pace

Back to the OP, about 500 to 600miles on a tankful with the motorhome and about 900 in my van

80 litres@ £ 1.50 per litre is £120 and I reckon I get about 27 mpg. Theoretically I’d do about 450 miles but I reckon the final few miles I’d be more than a little anxious!

1990 , Bournemouth University I was using it, although not yet in most homes. I love the way the Americans re-write the history of the internet to claim it was their invention. I was there and using it in 1990, but not as consumers see it today

Filled up on Sunday, pennies short of £100. Bit of a shock, although it was running on fumes at the time. Now due to health issues it will be laid up till next spring, hopefully when I get to burn off this tank the price will have fallen for the refill.

At least the tank is full for the winter. Helps reduce moisture in the tank.

90 litre tank so £135 and would normally (weather and hubby's right foot permitting) get around 6 miles per litre with our Carthago which being an A-class isn't as fuel efficient as the Globecar PVC which gave us just under 7 mpl.

Yesterday we took it to the dealer for warranty work in very strong winds so I hate to think what the mpl was, probably 5 mpl at best!

On the way back in the car we needed fuel (only has a 35L tank and hubby was getting 'twitchy' :giggle:) so I used the 'automate' app and found one at £1.399 pl (petrol) just off the motorway, cheaper than at home.

At£1.50 a litre its about £6.80 a gallon you're doing well over 100 mpg if it costs you 6p a mile thats pretty impressive.

Time to use veggie oil🤫🤫
You can't in most common rail diesels. Unless you want the 4k pump & injector bill
Red diesel being stopped soon.... Another problem for farmers and machinery on sites.
central heating oil is the same.

for me £120 @ uk prices & around 14kms/litre so 1120 kms? so about 11c per km?

We got £35 in the car this week. I guess that will keep those happy who was saying people not be able to buy less than £30 worth of petrol.

A typical trip for us:

Southampton to Newbury and back, almost all motorway or dual carriageway. 50 miles each way so 100 mile round trip
Diesel at £1.50 a litre or about £6.83 a gallon. (At 1 gall =4.55 litre)
A class van at around 25mpg. So four gallons for the trip.
£6.83 x 4 = £27.30

So a 1,000 mile round trip £273.

We hold 65 litres of diesel so £97.50 to fill tank, should take us about 357 miles before we run out.

You are of course spot on TW I did say it was a guesstimate. :giggle:

I had a computer monitor at home in 1985 and could send/receive mails all over the world. I could also access any number of forums with world-wide participants.

As you say, not publicly available but the technology existed.
