That’s a harder question, I want a long van and a high top, but when is long, too long? And how high can we go before it becomes a cost burden for ferries and the Chunnel?

Are you talking about panels van conversions? I really can't see there being a problem, over 3m is a trigger for higher tolls on French motorways but other than that just run through a dummy booking exercise on what would be your chosen ferry route and that will give you a clue.

For you Ref. We have a 6m long Fiat Ducato panel van it’s just shy of 2.8m to the top of the awning.
Plenty of room to stand up in, I’m 5’11, the floor must be a good 1” above the van floor.
No extra charge on the tunnel and the French tolls see us as class 2. Under 3.5t

Yes sorry, I’ve had this chat in my own head so many times I assume everyone knows what I’m talking about.

yes, planning a panel van conversion, probably Seval range and auto if I can find one, but I’ve seen the lwb, and xlwb and then I assume there are differing heights and I might want a roof rack or box on top?

Lots of PVCs at 6 or 6.4 meters long
A few converts have versions with extra height roofs if that,s what you want
Also some with pop tops if you prefer
Here,s one if you have a mega budget but they do appear second hand occasionally
Autos a bit less common and usually Fiats

When we were looking at PVC options from many makers, it struck me that some effectively lose a couple of inches of internal height by installing surprisingly large (deep from ceiling) overhead lights. As I am 6' 3'' this can be critical and led to several head bumps even when just looking around a vehicle. Could be a pain to live with if internal height is critical so beware!

L2 H3 Seval range 6m is great for Scottish ferries and I think European too, they are costed as a car, any longer then it gets expensive. If you get H3 then you will have plenty of headroom but may not want to put a roof box as you may find it’s hard to get stuff up and down ladders.
i have gone down your intended route see avata.
