Which Tyre manufacturer.

We are considering uprating our MH. We will have to change our tyres to a higher load rating. We have Michelin Aglis 225/75 16R tyres with 116 rating, we need to go to 121 load rate, but same size tyre. We usually buy Michelin tyres for our cars. Is there much difference between Continental and Michelin for the MH.
We are hoping to do a deal with our local tyre man as the present tyres have less than 2000 miles on them and are only 6 months old.

Continental &Mitchelin are the top two with Continental sometimes edging ahead. There are other tyre manufactures which are close to the top & are a lot cheaper e.g Hankook

What sort of deal, not charging you to dispose of the old tyres. It must feel bad getting rid of near new tyres why not wait till they are worn out.

When we needed new tyres on the last MH he gave us a very good price for the used tyres. It will be cheaper changing the tyres than a fine for being overweight.

I feel sceptical about changing to 'stronger' tyres, although I did so a couple of years ago. Surely it is the axle that should be considered first, although I changed tyres on professional advice when I was 20kg overweight on the rear wheels.

If you want an alternative to Michelins the Conti Vanco FourSeason2 tyres could be better for all year use than Vanco summer tyres.

Assuming they are available in the load rating you want.

I prefer the helpful advice offered by Continental in tyre pressures. For each size they will give you the optimum pressures for front and rear depending upon the actual axle loads you have measured on a weighbridge. Michelin just stick to the highest pressure mantra regardless of load.

A full timer friend with a 4250kg Rapido changed to Conti Vanco 4Season and loves them.

We are now using the Hankook 225/75 16R tyres rated at 121 on our tag Rapido, they seemed fine on the drive down to Spain a month ago, about £120 each fitted.

In view of the small mileages done , and relatively low speed a motorhome travels at buying top cost tyres isnt really needed.
There are a considerable number of tyres that are made in tyre plants all over the world that will do the job perfectly OK and often they are plants operated by the major Tyre companies, using exactly the same tech and equipment . Some even use older tread patterns
from their Euro operations.
