I am replacing the pipework on a 20 plus year installation as there is a leak on a T junction that couldn't be fixed in situ (corrosion) and is no longer needed as there is a spare manifold position.

I know I need to use the truma olives at the manifold but the connections to the oven and hob are steel braid hose and when I took those apart truma olives had been used rather than the conventional olives. Also, in some places copper inserts had been inserted in the pipes and in other places not.

So my question is: which type of olive is it best to use, I had been going to use conventional olives on the braided hose connections, and should I be using the inserts.

The installation is on a boat.

The simple answer is it depends on the fitting, the correct olive for the fitting should be used.
As for the inserts the Germans always use them in thin wall copper pipe , not so common to see them used here .

Not this type, it’s a bit cranky and prone to leaking 😇

I was hoping to reuse the braided steel hose as it is in good nick, I will see if I can find any info on the brand.

Engaged brain and offered it up, the nut is too long for a standard olive so it has to be the stepped one.
