Hi everyone

I want to buy a SatNav for our MoHo. Here's what I need;

  1. A physical unit, not an app (I don't have a smartphone or tablet and I don't want either)
  2. European maps (not just the UK)
  3. Ability to enter height, width, length and weight (I'll need to add the weight if we decide to up-plate)
  4. Touchscreen
  5. Lifetime maps, updated by wifi
I'm currently looking at the TomTom Go Expert Truck 6", which seems to have everything but I'm wondering;
  1. Are there better alternatives?
  2. Does anyone NOT receommend these for some reason?
I'd love any help you can give me, please :)

PS: To keep the thread as short as possible, please don't recommend apps, maps, co-pilots etc. :) Thanks so much :)

There are many threads on here regarding Sat Navs.
We have aguiri - ticks all your requirements above plus built in forward facing dash cam

You will get as many recommendations as there are satnavs, it's all about learning how to get the best from your chosen device.

I prefer Garmin, mainly for their off line route planning programs, plus I've been using various Garmin units for many years, car, motorcycle and camper, and am happy with them.

As with LesW we use Garmin Sat Navs (Camper 760 and Camper 780) and free pc based software (LesW - Mapsource and us - BaseCamp).

We use a Garmin Camper 770 (does more or less everything you want except I am not sure about weight) Garmin have long been in the business of making navigational equipment and we have used their kit on the boat we used to own and trust the brand to more or less do what it says on the tin.

I seem to get where I want to go with the Avtex Tourer 2.
Has a database of all C&MH club CL's which I generally use and I find very useful.

I'm also very impressed with the Avtex Tourer 2. It's not cheap but I wanted a good one.

The Avtex Tourer is made by Garmin in collaboration with Avtex.

Another vote for the Garmin 780.

+1 for the Aguri, I have had the RV720 knocking on 4 years now and it hasn’t led me wrong yet

The problem with Garmin is you have to smart link it to your phone if you want traffic updates.

I've used the smart link but it often drops out of connection for some reason.

Yip, the Tourer One is a rebadged Camper 770 and the Tourer Two is a rebadged Camper 780 (they even have the same user manual).

 Live traffic updates are done by the built-in wifi.

Stop wondering you have done the analysis, it’s a great SatNav, all updates without connecting to a Computer,The Traffic info is accurate and diversions work well.

Cheap Chinese with Waze or similar and a good map.

As a punt I bought the Ohrex Bluetooth Satnav from Amazon. It was £69.99 so didn't expect much. It's for trucks but it programmable for the dimensions of the Moho and on an 11 day trip to Devon and Dorset did pretty well at keeping us on the decent and wider roads with the odd hiccup actually getting into places like Castle Drogo for example.

The bugbear is that when you are used to Google maps or TomTom searching this is a little more difficult to get it to find where you want to go! For all the campsites I ended up enter the gps co-ords from Google maps to land exactly where I wanted.

I have a TomTom 410 for the V-Strom and it is so easy to use! But it has no idea of the size of the vehicle. I have used it in the car many times with no problems. On the GT I use maps and road signs!

We're currently in France, our much loathed Aguri crashed again. Garmin reserve failed to load. Roadlords phone app took us into a tiny village necessitating an exit the wrong way down a one way street, ( pardon, pardon, qui qui British ).Waze, sulking and refusing to work. 3 paper maps of different scales which have no corresponding road numbers, Aggggģhhh. You've got to laugh haven't you.Still having fun though. Cycling out of Le Puy today on a disused railway. Long tunnels to go through, brilliantly engineered.
Mike.

As others have commented, we also have a Garmin 780 which does everything on your list. Disappointed have to use phone for live traffic (the bosses far older car Garmin doesn't need outside help), but it seems so far to do what we need.

Sorry no experience with TomTom.

I have a TomTom Camper GO, which works well. I had Garmin but found it way too fussy to enter anything in it. "Press Go to proceed, Press yes to Go, Wait for GPS, Press Go "

I just want to switch it on and it works.... TomTom 4 me.

Just out of interest, my smart phone link keeps dropping off and I get a message on screen that smart link is no longer connected,

Usually after an hour of travelling. Not sure why but does your smart link stay connected?

I'm thinking of moving over to Tomtom because of the problems I have with smart link. Its a bit of a nuisance to use the 770 traffic now.

Sounds like the sort of problems I had with Garmin, the TomTom link works well , and I get traffic updates on ETA.

Reading back through the thread, some forum members have the Aguiri sat nav. I believe these are re named Garmin models. Do these navigators require smart link phones for traffic info?

I'm sorry but I don't know. Perhaps phone network.? I'm using EE on a (cheapish) Samsung Android phone

I took a punt on a Navpal from Amazon £80,so far so good it thinks I’m a lorry as you can set dimensions. Currently got me to Lake Como with no real issues. Worth a look 👍

Not anymore on the 770 model, I cant speak for the others though.
Live traffic reports ended 30 June 21

Ah, as I said I'm looking at the TomTom Go Expert Truck which does have live updates.
