3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I'm with Comfort and on our recent trip to the Balkans I discovered that while Comfort (Aviva) include insurance for Bosnia and Herzegovina as standard it will not cover Montenegro. According to Aviva they have had issues with 'British vans being targeted' whatever that means. Seems odd as Montenegro feels the most western and touristsy of these 3 countries.

Anyway, it would be interesting to know which insurers include which non EU countries as standard so I can take this into account when I renew.

NFU don't cover Montenegro or Croatia and a few others.

They have to cover Croatia - it's EU. Don't all insurance companies cover all EU. Thought that was pretty standard.

I am covered for the UK.....

No EU countries - thought that was pretty standard nowadays? All my insurance policies have includes EU without asking.

Lv exclude
  • Azerbaijan, Belarus,
  • Iran, Israel,
  • Macedonia, Moldova,
  • Russia, Tunisia, Ukraine.

Why, we are not in the EU.
Even when we were they didn't, well as Jon pointed out they do but only 3rd party.
Every policy I have had for as long as I can remember automatically included EU. All my cars (at one point I ran 4 cars at once)

As I say, my current Comfort one includes all EU, Switzerland, Andorra, Lichtenstein, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina all with fully comp insurance. Not requested just as standard. Also the cheapest policy I could find.

What does that mean? The rest of the world included?

I don't see why you can't arrange new insurance while out. You could easily take policy out online - they don't ask where you are at the time. Same would go for on the phone.

I've never done it but I can't see why it would be a problem.

I’ll probably be getting the border insurance when I go over to Morocco….😳
Only 3rd party though. I think I'd organise some before I go after my experience in Montenegro.

The trouble is LV have a weird way of quoting, they quote on the chassis first, so happy enough with a van conversion but excludes anything on a heavier chassis.

Yes - I gave up trying to get a quote with LV last year as it was extremely hard work. In fact I seem to remember in 2022 LV said they could not insure me as they could find my van. A bog standard Fiat/Burstner.

We had no probs with LV but terrible experience with comfort . We can only speak as we find

I agree they re pretty good. We have our travel Insurance and some car insurance with them and they were great with my scooter insurance, Morocco for free, sadly they ve now withdrawn from the motorcycle market.

Just renewed with Comfort fully comp policy includes all EU plus all the countries listed by Vxman. Aviva are the underwriters. Renewed online from Spain.

We drove down the far side of the Adriatic earlier this year, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, then across & up throgh Italy. The only company that would insure us was Caravanguard. They charged us £20 ish extra for Montenegro & Albania. They won't insure Bosnia, so we had to go over the new bridge onto the island at the bottom of Croatia & miss that out.

LV would not do Montenegro or Albania if I remember rightly (even as an extra) at that time, perhaps they've had a re-think? Good news if they havem We changed from the NFU which as people have rightly said will not even include Croatia fully comp!
