Can anyone advise me a good cheap inverter please? There seems to be 1000s out there and I don't know where to start! What does it definitely need to have? Any essential features cheap ones are missing? I only want it as a backup for the odd day when not on hookup. Some are like £25, others are £100s! We won't be needing anything high powered running off it, just the very essentials for the odd night. Thanks again, you guys are helping me out loads! :)

my thoughts exactly but i just thought with all the 'cheap' inverters available why has one of the big magazines not done a review/story on them
You have a quaint view as to why motorhome magazines do reviews. They do them because they need to fill space and have been given the product for free by the seller along with an agreement to buy advertising space. I can't remember the last time that I saw a review in a motorhome magazine that slagged off the item that was under review. As for "stories" in the sense of investigative journalism, I have never seen one of those either.

BTW I would not touch a £40 3000W inverter with a barge pole. My 2000W modified sine wave inverter (only used for wife's hairdryer if we are not on EHU) cost about £85 about 5 years ago.

You need mains for toothbrush chargers, rechargeable vacuum cleaner and hair clippers. The losses are small with small inverters, ours only uses 0.2 amps ?

We use toothbrushes that charge from a USB socket.

'quaint'..i can live with that :D
not just the motorhome ones though, caravan/tent plus the CMC and CCC...a lot of which have huge adverts/funding from insurance companies which inevitably have to pay out when someones pride and joy burns down because of a cheap ebay inverter
on youtube you can find a small number of inverter reviews but they are more likely to be from an electronics point of view, internal parts and boards etc
