I belong to the camping & caravan club, am planning a month trip around Scotland later in the year. Wondered what peoples thoughts are on whether I should join any others? In particular the caravan & motorhome club? We tend to prefer staying on smaller sites. Thank in advance

we were members of CCC upto this month but now use pitchup to find sites much cheaper.

When I did a whistle stop tour on the NC500 last September the only club sites I stayed on were the C&C sites at Jedburgh on my way into Scotland, and later at Loch Ness, and that was mostly so I could use the facilities, rathan than preference on locations. Once I got above the Inverness / Fort William line the C&CC sites, even CS was negligible. C&MC are thus better, but only just, but I'm not a member of them so never tried to get into their locations, but drove past a couple, especially near John O Groats.

As with most clubs the sites tend to be remote from any decent towns. But there are many sites that are not affiliated with either. Unless you are going peak season when sites may be full if not booking ahead you may well be able to wing it without needing either club.

If by “smaller sites” you mean CL type sites (limited to 5 vans, some with facilities/some not) the Caravan & Motorhome Club might be worth it as the network is quite extensive and closed to non-members.

We are members of both CMC and C&CC mostly because of the CL / CS networks.

If you come up the east coast route (A1, A697 or A68) I can let you know of an overnight stop off not much further on than Jed.
