Can't decide where to mount the Sterling B2B? Options are limited, particularly if access to the fuse were required.

The cable from the engine battery enters bottom left, behind Electroblock, and all connections are made at the HSM-01 mounted on the right hand wall.

Mount at rear of housing, above and behind the Electroblock, thats reachable at almost an arms length. But fuse access would be difficult.

As above but mount fuse in front of Electroblock?

Mount B2B externally to the cabinet and above the access point.

Any suggestions?

That's what I would do.
Easy to wire with an EBL, take the feed from the starter battery that goes into the EBL and disconnect and connect to B2B input and connect the output from the B2B to the starter battery input in the EBL. You don't have to worry about bypassing the split charge relay in the EBL as it's a 70 amp relay.

The engine battery has a 70A fuse, the manual puts an 80A fuse on the output of B2B to leisure battery. Siting that at the rear would make access to it cumbersome but doable. Would you just leave it there?

I would not try to integrate the B2B (if it is Sterling) with EBL.

Ours is separate on Sterling's advice and the B2B is located under-floor next to the batteries - shorter cable runs.

Sitting/lying working out how to access the various points and cables and thought, would it not be easier just to disconnect the EBL, remove it and create space to work?

Then realised that the roof of the area was actually the underside of one of the underseat storage areas.

Rather than take out the EBL, remove the seat panel and open up the entire work area! ??

7 seat cushions, much head scratching, swearing and 32 screws later ....

At least I can see what is what.

From above, the daylight is the open garage door

Just need to get it fitted and reassembled before the OH sees the state of disruption ?

I'm not sure why Sterling would say that? I spoke with them after purchase and they were reluctant to provide any specific answers to my queries about how and where to connect as they had no specific knowledge of the EBL?

The Schaudt EBL manual has a specific wiring layout for connecting their own booster therefore I thought it reasonable to wire the Sterling unit in the same manner, I've tried to attach the pdf but not sure if it uploads correctly, detail of the Schaudt comparable unit in the link below.

In my vehicle all units are within the rear garage, leisure batteries, EBL, and location for the new B2B, the wiring from the engine battery is a 7 metre run and already exists, so all runs to incorporate are minimal.

Time for a new van me thinks, that one looks a wreck.

Imagine what the OH would say! Battery cables just arrived in post so hopefully will get the B2B fitted today and reassemble the jigsaw puzzle.

Failing that - order a new one ?

Nice one! Mind if I ask you what cable sizing you are using for 7m run? I'm just about to fit a Sterling BB1260 which will have a 3.5m cable run which Sterling recommends I use a 70mm2 cable! I'm hoping to use 50mm2.

The thing to keep in mind when fitting a B2B is they can push out a fair amount of heat. You can see how much by the size of the vents at the top and they have an internal fan to give the air a boost as well. All this means is don't put them in too confined a space. :)

Only comment I would make is why the fuse? the later B2B's have built in fuses and if you took the input from the EBL input that cable is fused by the starter battery. If not you should have put the fuse by the starter battery.

The engine battery is fused at the battery.

I added the additional fuse as it was shown on the Schaudt manual linked yesterday and it also shows on the Sterling install guide.

Better safe than sorry I suppose?

I didn't install that cable, it already existed linked to the EBL. It was 25mm and there are no cables anywhere near that size of 70mm in the Dethleffs A class. I don't think they would even fit in the terminals of the Sterling B2B?

Sterling quote 16mm for 5 metres at 60A. Are you not reading the fuse size 50A or 70A?

Ah, now I'm not sure what I'm reading?! I found a cable size data sheet on the Sterling installation guide page of their website, I found it quite complicated to navigate and there is a high probability that what I'm reading might refer to another of their products in the range. I shall get my glasses on and have another go...I'm not disappointed though, the pride of 70mm² cable is eye watering!?

Ah, now that's a lot clearer and not what I've been looking at, many thanks mate. So, for a cable run of 3.5m for my BB1260 I then have to use an 80amp inline fuse then?

I have a 70A at the engine battery and an 80A at the leisure battery side. Lenny HB who certainly has a far greater knowledge and experience than I do queried if the 80A was required but I fitted it so it's staying ?

This is where I sourced mine but cheaper may be available

That's fantastic Bustup, I am very much obliged!:giggle:

I used 25mm cable as advised on here for my older sterling B2B. It was cheaper to buy 25mm jump leads and I was able to use the ready fabricated terminals at each end after a little alteration (and NO, I did remove the crocodile clips on the jump leads, I didn't use them to make the connections lol)

I now have four very strong crocodile clips to use somewhere ...

Ours is at the back of the external battery box. Keeps it dry, short run to batteries, 16mm cables to engine battery.
