Where next after camping Mar Menor feb 22? (1 Viewer)

We are currently at camping Mar Menor, not due home for another 5 weeks. We have our dog, electric bikes and scooter with us in a 8.6m Hymer which is off grid capable.

Any suggestions for places to go next? We love to cycle but not off road.
We enjoy peace and quiet but like a morning stroll sightseeing or a bike ride etc.

Happy to try inland but no idea where.

Come on Funster’s please give us some ideas of places, campsites or special parking places. I feel we are missing out!

Although probably not for your next stop (it’s over 250 miles), if you follow the coast north we would Highly recommend El Poble Nou del Delta if you haven’t been before. There’s a restaurant Casa de Fusta where you can stay free which does lovely regional food including wild duck and frog legs It’s also amongst the nature reserve, wetlands and paddy fields so great for nature, walking and cycling.

Might be worth booking your next stop...it's a Tad busy on the coast...even where we stayed last night at Archena it had 34 Motorhomes in situ.... haven't experienced those numbers before.

If you are travelling back , north along the coast have you tried the ACSI site at Bravo Playa

Torre de La Salle. Facilities are fantastic and its ideal for large outfits. Great cycle paths along the front.​

You could try the Camperstop Sierra Espuna, we are here at the moment but leaving tomorrow. It is very beautiful countryside and views with flat cycling along the canal road. A bit lacking in resturants but there is one called Venta Del Rata. A flat cycle ride from the Camperstop.

Thanks all, not sure how far south we will get. Think we will try inland as Armytwowheels suggested. We are aware of the increase in Motorhomes although all sites we’ve been on so far have had spaces.

We stopped here for a couple of nights, ended up staying 2 weeks, bit of a holiday park, but out of season and quiet it was spot on, walks and cycling very easy.

Although probably not for your next stop (it’s over 250 miles), if you follow the coast north we would Highly recommend El Poble Nou del Delta if you haven’t been before. There’s a restaurant Casa de Fusta where you can stay free which does lovely regional food including wild duck and frog legs It’s also amongst the nature reserve, wetlands and paddy fields so great for nature, walking and cycling.

Love this place and always try to stop if passing, never managed to eat at the restaurant, (closed refurb already eaten etc..) but the bike rides are great, take the van out morning to breakfast on the excellent deserted beach nearby.

We also recommend both these spots, great for a bit of flat cycling which is what you asked for , you could do both these as they are near each other. I think Ber090 is also currently at Totana.

We really enjoyed the stay at Camping Sierra de Espuna in the village of El Berro which is just 55 miles inland NW from you. The village is small but the nearest town, Alhama de Murcia is nice & I see one of our fun Sterk lives there. The Park is great to visit at this time of year, especially on electric bikes, and it is definitely tranquil. Check it out on ACSI & read up about access if your going

We are at Camperstop Sierra Espuna and confirm perfect for walking and cycling. Busy as a busy thing! Changes daily but often full. Everyone arriving says virtually everywhere is busier than ever.

In the city centre you get Tapas with every drink; so soon learned to have a small beer & tapas, then move to the next bar Each bar has a different speciality, so you rarely get the same dish twice.

A small beer or wine is the Spanish traditional way to do the Tapas round..the Tapa is the way to cover your glass to prevent the bugs from sharing your tipple, now Tapas has become a different way of eating...similar to the Menu del Dia which originated from providing a hearty cheap meal for the workers or those on a limited budget...
Menu del Dia has since become the tourist trap...from 9€ upwards.... unfortunately this way of eating is denying the visitor the true gastronomy that exists here in Spain...each to their own in both taste and budget.

Across a road and a dusty car park then you have the sea. Its better than I have made it sound so a 4 minute walk.

Talk with Bryan Thirkell who travels that area a lot. He is currently at Area Los Narejos and he’s a really helpful chap. Not on here though so just give him a visit.

Bit late to this, but I can deffo recommend Sierra Espuna. We have visited the area for 20 years as my sister lives there, so we know it well. It's worth getting to Hotel Mariposa - run by English family for years. Not to stay there as such although it is a small hotel, but they run lots of adventures tours etc. The best is a quad bike safari (it's quite gentle - not a race track) through the vineyards, right upon to the tops of the Siearra E - it's like being on the moon. You then get a swim in the most amazing lake at the end before heading back. Nice menu del dia as well. Here are a couple of links:

Another choice in that area is a campsite in L’Ampolla, on the north side of the delta. It’s just across the road from the beach and a few hundred yards into the nice little town. There’s a very good restaurant at San Jaume d’Enveja called Roca del Rui, overlooking the river! It’s also close to the Delta museums.
