My Adria Supreme has the same flimsy plastic kitchen sink plug as some Hymers. So flimsy it has cracked. Looks the same quality as the 50p plugs sold at Motorhome shows but with an "O" ring and bayonet fitting all in cheap chrome finish.
LennieHB tells me they are well over £30 to buy (someone else quoted £27), both prices crazy for what it is.
Does anyone know a 'get around?'

If you would like me to make a plug for you, send me some pictures and accurate dimensions.

You could sell loads of them, the Smev one is crap all the chrome flakes off, a black one would look good.

rosalan If you want a cheap one nip over to Germany only €28. :giggle:

I would love to have one made, however the present one was not strong enough and unsuitable for heavy daily use, so copying it exactly could have the same problem I fear. My vain hope was that Smev had improved their design, now at least 5 years old as a result of numerous complaints from Hymer (or Adria) owners at the exorbitant price for such a simple item. Sadly most drain covers available at present do not do the same job. Perhaps a cork would work and prove cheaper.
Thank you PaulandChrissy and LennieHB

the best plug designs are slightly tapered with a flanged collar. Then the weight of the water holds it in place. The crap ones are thin about 2mm thick material, which easily distorts and cracks. A solid bung would be much better

Is this the plug we are referring to, or is it different. CF429AF1-8C4A-4D48-B089-ADB9D35815D6.pngA965AF99-DF08-4082-A209-B52B5966E35B.png

That was my plan. A nice SOLID tapered plug with an extra lip at the top. 😊😉

What’s this bayonet fitting. Is it not just a conventional plug.

I assume you are talking about one of these:

They are cr@p but fortunately ours hasn't bust, it's a pain to clean though so I've got a standard kitchen sink plug strainer and a multi-fit 'plug' which you push the centre down to seal or pull up to drain (similar to the below) not that I'm likely to use the latter as I always use a bowl to wash up in but if I need to do some washing etc it'll save me having to use a bucket.

I’m totally confused what the plug looks like now looking at all those pictures. Is it a strainer and a plug. 🤪Anyway. If anyone would like me to make a solid plug to do the job, just let me know. 😊🥴😉

Stay Safe PaulandChrissy.

Thanks for that. I have just ordered a similar one from Victorian Plumbing. Will see how it works on our leaking bathroom plug hole.

Hi PaulandChrissy
The plug that I refer to is the one shown by MinxyGirl. The bonus is the device shown below which would seem to answer my original problem. I am very grateful to PaulandChrissy for the offer of copying my original, a design referred to above as cr@p, which is why I hesitate to explore this avenue. Alan

The chrome Smev one that Mel posted a photo of in post#11 is the one fitted in most German vans. After about a year the chrome starts flaking as it does on the waste as well.
Thinking about colour I said black eai now thinking a mid grey would match the shower drains.

This is mine.

Hi Alan
Glad you found an answer to your problem. Maybe Smev will make something a bit more robust in the future. Then again, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
If I meet any funsters with the same problem at any rallies or shows in the future, I will have a go at making something stronger as a replacement.

Cheers PaulandChrissy. 👍

That looks like the whole sink drain/ trap goes manky, not just the plug.

That's what I said.
The last van had the same one it was still OK when change vans after 3 years.
This one is 4½ years old started going at about one year old.
That’s terrible. Doesn't do much for the reputation of German quality Motorhomes. Hopefully someone will come up with a complete replacement option that’s better quality. A 3D printed option is probably not the best route in this case. ☹️

Paul’s products are solid quality. If he made you one it wouldn’t be flimsy

I've never seen that on any MH we've had but then again perhaps our 'ablutions' liquids don't need to be quite so toxic in order to get us clean! 😄

That's just normal use no nasty cleaning products.

I hope this does not turn onto a similar kitchen sink drama like mine , can you not change it for just a normal plug ?

Best suggestion is to change the whole unit but I read that it not a standard size. Reading reviews about the unit that my Adria and many Hymers have, the reviews could not have been worse.

Use an old Billiard or Pool ball , end of problem , also very useful when the plug is missing at Camp Sites !
