The main caravan club sites e.g. Motorhome club & Caravan & camping club have said that they are not open till june/ July? Could we use private sites?

I think the site's owner's organisation have 'recommended' closure. Jim will be along soon. EDIT - (There, I told you so!!1)

Before the lockdown was imposed we were supposed to be still going on a campsite? They told us the toilets would be unavailable to use? I hope when the sites reopen this wont be the case?

I think you will find a whole lot more people wanting to use their own toilets and showers when sites do re-open.

As long as the facilities are cleaned properly i cant see any problems? Nothing wrong with a disinfectant wipe on the toilet seat before use or something like that. Also making sure that when people have used the showers to change the disinfectant regularly. Having failed that use your own shower provided you have one.

Correct but sometimes on a morning the shower/toilet blocks are busy so it will be the amount of people in a confined area as well as the cleanliness.

Hi south1965 Welcome to Fun.
This sort of thread has been running since & well before lock down.
Its always interesting to read the various comments from folks staying on sites, the ones that mainly use the CMC sites because of their superior wash room facilities etc.
We are the type, like many on here, that when push comes to shove, and we use a camp site, we only use our own facilities, this is why we bought a van that is self sufficient.

I think now more than ever, we would not take the chance of using any public facilities, after all the Covid 19 will always be around, even after lock down, just waiting to get you:eek:
Bring on the vaccine, stay safe, extremely safe, you watch the R value increase after lock down, although "they" have made allowances for this, we dont want to be one of the stats, if we can help it.
Best wishes.
LES

I will be off as soon as I can, but will only be using my own facilities this year. I should think that's the only way to keep social distancing. Then again if they open schools then social distancing will be off, children will not be able to socially distance. As for a guess at a date personally I think it will be July.

I have booked hayfield I Derbyshire for the middle of June through the caravan and camping club site so maybe they hoping sooner?

Not sure I would want to be and about in the first flush of lock down - not desperate to compromise our health. July and August in my opinion would be too soon, possibly September/October at the earliest but each to their own. And some with financial implications would want it earlier of course. Be safe.

If I can’t go to France then I would go anywhere, as long as I end up back home whilst not having stopped anywhere. Just need to get the wheels turning until things settle a bit.

Pretty sure we won't be going abroad this year, even though we have ferries and tunnel booked! If we can get away in this country, even if it's only in Kent where we live we'll be happy. We never use site facilities even when we had a caravan before the motorhome.

We currently have both motorhome and caravan and suspect we will use the caravan before the motorhome, particularly if having to stay in this country.

What are you going to do when you get there? Even if the restaurants are open would you want to use them. Then would you use the bus service. I can't see use going any where this year. What's the point of being stuck in the middle of nowhere.

For some people, stuck in the middle of nowhere, as you put it, will be sheer bliss.
Quiet site, use your own facilities, sat outside with a beer, nice walk, bicycle ride, playing scrabble, dominoes, a DVD, no stress, relaxing, if the weather is OK then wonderful.

We are all different.

Quite happy with our own company. Will take some food with us, probably won't use any restaurants/pubs. May have to use local supermarkets but SD will still continue no doubt which is no different to being at home and at least it will be a change of scenery.

I think they will restrict the distance we can travel in the beginning or the influx of visitors on some communities could be overwhelming. France are considering 100km, Spain say you have to stay in your province.

I have used it...... yipeee driven all the way down my drive and back, it did feel good to hear the engine???. where to next? Living the dream.... in the Drive. Smudger55

if they don't open in July will they even open this year as a lot only open until end of October /November so would it be worth opening up later than July.
Notice they moved the lockdown talks to Sunday now from Thursday don't know why they worry about bank how weekend loads of cars on roads now coming from work hardly seems any different than it used to be now

I love living in middle of nowhere. We’re all working from home ... Hubby doing his power station safety cases, I’m teaching online, eldest daughter finishing final year dissertation for uni, and youngest has just started his Higher courses. I’d say I’m working longer hours but I can pop washing out, have lunch in the garden, get out on my bike as soon as I finish. We see no one, just fields and hills. I love it. Sheer bliss. Might be different if it was raining right enough!

I too enjoy living in a small village and spend my time pottering around my large (3/4 acre) garden. but the thread was about using the MH. As a member of the CCC we use a number of their THS, we choose ones with a nearby bus service. One we have used regularly is at Kendal, just around the corner is a Morrison's, Aldi and a bus stop. We catch the bus into Kendal and then onward to Windermere, Grasmere to Keswick. But we haven't been in a supermarket since 17th March. We rely on deliveries or click and collect. Other than that our only trips from home are weekly to the local egg farm that runs on a honesty box system so we see no-one and monthly to the doctors to pick up our repeat prescriptions.
I cannot see us being on a bus for the rest of the year therefore I can't see us using the MH in that time.

spoken to a person at haven and they think only owners will be aloud as no club or bar area will be open
so no holiday makers

As soon as sites open and restrictions are lifted we will be away, we don't use the site facilities so as long as we are careful getting water and emptying gey and toilet, we can be safe and isolated. It would just be great to get away anywhere.

I’m with you. Happy to go places we’ll see no one and no need to go in shops or use facilities.

I think public transport and shops will be best avoided. I’m hoping we can do weekends away and be self sufficient. I’m guessing we should all modify our type of travel. I’d love to get to France in October but not sure it will be open. Even if it is would I be happy going into a shop for food? It’s a thought.
