Well I'm happy with it , had it positioned there on last Van for 2yrs never had a problem

Cameras for view to assists driving are legal everywhere.

Most of Europe (including France), you can record, but not publicly share the recordings without anonymising the video.

A few places are stricter. Germany, Austria, Spain. There you can't continuously record, you can only have event triggered recordings.

Portugal and Luxembourg, recording with dash cams is essentially illegal.
