John reckons he could do all the habitation checks we've being paying out for (apart from gas of course) so we just need a good reliable damp meter.
Any ideas please?

It's not that easy. First you have to decide to prick or not to prick.

The spiky meters do leave tiny holes but also you are very sure you are finding damp
The radar meters leave no mark but can be confused by screws/nails/wires in the wall.

I've got this one. Seems to give similar readings to more expensive ones used by dealers.

Hi I bought a Stihl model Moisture Meter, and found it very accurate, it has the two pins. Got it for my old Rapido before I PX it and for a 12 year old van it was damp free as the dealer verified with his similar meter

When it comes to tools like this I think you’ll have to spend a few hundred quid for a professional tester however I recently purchased a pinless type which I’ve found very useful.

Amazon product ASIN B00OZDWEO8
Best to practice on various samples of scrap wood in conjunction with a pin type tester to understand how the pinless type is affected by any metal behind or alongside the woodwork being tested.
