Just wondering what is it that makes us want to get away in our motorhome ?

Is it to get away from the family or work or stress ?

Itchy feet!

Spending too long stationary leads to an irresistible urge to go walkabout. Now I am getting older it has to be “driveabout”.:)

Avoiding jobs at home, anything to avoid that really !

Chasing the weather.

Or a particular activity, like:

Childrens birthdays: rather than a home party we tend to offer to take a friend and go to a specific place or activity, Europa Park, Skiing, Canoeing etc

Following the TDF

Christmas market visits

The intolerance in England towards motorhomes, the crowded roads..

Life sometimes, just to get away. Tends to be where we both spend some time together, going out for meals, walking(I’m starting to struggle). Could be bike rides. We tend to book proper sites in the winter, usually close to big towns and ensure we have leccy, so all snug, me, hubby, 2 dogs and sometimes the cat! Nothing better. We’re in York this wkend, it’ll be a couple sherberts in evil eye, me, he is t-total, either fish and Chips or Thai. Sat will be into town, a meal in our fav restaurant there, not expensive but good food and good value, two Singapore slings then a jolly walk back to van.

Hi.
To see what we can, while we can,so keep heading for horizons and long may it remain so........ Monday is supposed to be sunny...... Ah yes,Seaside for a couple of days..(y)(y)

the whole winter im a gas engineer and winter is a lot of stress, thats why in the summer we get away as much as possible to recouperate

An event or the pursuit of adventure

my motorhome is just a tool to get me & my toys to a destination and provide accomodation when I get there

Load it up with a motorcycle, paraglider, skateboard, unicycle, snowboard, etc and head to my destination - sleep & eat in it once there, unless I'm snowboarding in which case I sleep & eat in a 4 * (or better) hotel

A very low boredom threshold: variety is the spice of life.

We just like to get away as we tend to be more relaxed in the van and like some nice walks and just chilling really. I don't have a stressful job and I never bring work home but it's just nice to get away and forget everything.

A different dog walk, getting out to nice eating and drinking places, a new view from the window. Also although we have lovely neighbours we never see them in the winter, when on campsites everyone steps out of their vehicles and seem more willing to chat.

Me too.

Get home after a trip and within days we are thinking about where and when to go next.
Bit frustrating an the moment as we are having a load of work done on the garden and we have to be here for a while.
Portugal in early spring perhaps..............if we can hold out that long.

Richard.

If we’ve ever got a couple of days free we get away. All year round .
We don’t wait for, or chase the good weather we go what ever the weather together, with Buster our Border terrier.
Infact furthest we’ve been in ours (Pug) is the IOW Southwise and The Hebredise North wise off the British Isles never been abroad.
Weve even get away for one night . It’s not hard driving to a favourite pub in the country and stopping over .
The longest time we’ve spent in ours , so far , is 3 weeks .
Looking forward to having more time , then we’ll venture abroad. But not wishing our lives away.
We’ve a couple of weekends away before Xmas then we’re off up to Scotland on Boxing Day till after New Year.
It’s great still having the boys at home. Apart from no empty house being able to leave the kids at home , once they were old enough , meant we started to get off together even more. Doing things we wanted to do not child based haha .
Plus now, Isaac keeps work ticking over for Ralph. So there’s a lot more Friday / Mondays being had.

@Clarky
It’s a problem isn’t it!:)

I went into the motorhome on our drive on Monday just to check all was OK.

The “itchy feet” hit as soon as I was in there so we are going off again next Monday. About a 1000 mile tour around the U.K.

It has become more insistent for us recently as we have been limited by building work at home, so we understand your feeling re your garden work. Spend the time deciding which areas you simply must visit,
then, when you free again go for it!

The anticipation is part of the package isn’t it.(y)

We are near Seville at the moment having left Portugal last week. Apart from the occasional day the weather has been horrible.

Same here in Javea.

Worse November weather I have ever known. I have been working outside for most of it.

I don't feel any need to get away from anything. My m/h and my motorbikes are just boys' toys; my magic carpets for adventures.

For me its being able to go anywhere I wish, surrounded by my own stuff, with the ability to move on if I get annoyed by someone or something. Can't stand hotels, never done B&B, self catering is a bit hit and miss on the hygiene front and that really is my main problem. I do have a problem feeling comfortable in a place lots of others have slept, crapped and showered, and my home on wheels is just my perfect escape from everything.

When you are retired and a true OF (old Fart) like me (75) you do need something in your life to look forward to other than the more mundane "just living" routine!!

For us - The MoHo!! :) we spend on average between 150 & 180 nights a year away - suits us fine!! :)
