I use this one, a great small unit that can be left running with a hose, I bought a silicon hose to use with the built in humidistat to permanently drain, got the humidifier from Costco ?

We use an eBac for the house, they are a great company to deal with but sell a not very good product

Try not to leave ours hanging around long enough to ever be a problem.

I use one of these at night when we are in the motorhome, very small fits perfectly in the passenger footwell and I get zero condensation on the windows and much easier to set up than a silver screen plus I can still see out my front screen

I do use one on my boat, as everything does get damp due to the salty air. I also use a raft of dehumidifier crystal water traps, which keeps everything under control.

Not sure if I need one in the van. Seems nice and dry as it is.

I run a dehumidifier in my MoHo over the winter. We use our MoHo about once a month, so don’t take bedding in, and the dehumidifier keeps it all dry, and circulates the air. I understand it’s not air tight, but nothing ever is that you put a dehumidifier in. Even if it doesn’t dry the air, and just draws outside air in, it won’t make worse, and fresh air circulation is better than nothing.

Specifications suggest that's a normal household dehumidifier, not a dessicant absorption type, so it won't work very well in colder temperatures (if at all below about 5C).

Dimplex say it's for internal home use only, and it's also on Which's do not buy list due to reports of some having caught fire

I wouldn't use a dehumidifier in my van, you're just attempting to dry out the whole northern hemisphere, but if you insist something like the Meaco absorption type work best in low temperatures and have auto reset programming so they will go straight into dehumidifier mode after a power cut without having to be reset manually.

In addition to the valid points already made about trying to dehumidify your neighbourhood, I am also not sure that it is wise to leave unattended a dehumidifier with an alleged 20 litre per day extraction rate, but only a 2.3 litre holding tank. How many times a day are you going to go and check it is not full?

I had a look at a fire damaged yacht for sale a few years ago, the dehumidifier had set fire to it.

I have to laugh at some of the responses here, clearly a little knowledge is dangerous ?

So tell us where we went wrong, oh master ............ so that we can reach your level of knowledge.

I have come to understand that you have to be very careful on forums because some people clearly have no clue what they are talking about, either not reading something properly or plain ignorance of what is being discussed, just double and triple cheaper any advice you read unless you really trust the person ?

I've always used a dehumidifier in our MH or Race van even put one in the trailer (which is vented).
My workshop is vented & has extractor fan's & if I don't use a dehumidifier over the winter all my machines will catch a bit of surface rust, the plasma cutter is very susceptible to damp & the HF wont fire up, but using a dehumidifier it never give's me grief.

He's got a hose attached to it so won't need to empty it ...

When asking for comments it's not a good idea to insult people otherwise when you really DO need help about something they know a LOT about you'll be unlikely to get any assistance.

Putting the smiley at the end doesn't remove the 'insult'.

As for a dehumidifier ... we've never used one, never needed one. You need to bear in mind that they give of some heat which warms the air and makes it hold more moisture so can actually make the situation worse IMV. Same reason we have never heated our MHs/campers either.

To answer the op's question, I use a Meaco junior desiccant dehumidifier. It needs to be a desiccant type to work below 5degrees C.

The stories about damp air being replaced immediately is rubbish otherwise the van humidity would never drop.

I set mine to approximately 60% humidity which is enough to keep mold away. The settings can be 40%, 50%, 60% or continuous (for drying clothes). The Meaco checks the atmosphere every half hour and only switches on to maintain the humidity at the level you set. A by product is heat and that keeps the van warm too.

I take it with me in summer. On wet days it will nicely dry out towels, wet clothes , coats etc.

I don't need to empty the tank as it continually drains via a pipe to the kitchen sink. Added benefit is you flush out the grey waste with pure water!

If it is an absorption dehumidifier, why has it got a defrost mode?

Hint: it wouldn't need a defrost mode if it was the type that is designed to operate efficiently at low temperatures!

That's going to kill your batteries running the inverter all night to run that. :ROFLMAO:

Why the two threads?

Same topic, same title, same section of the forum but first post worded slightly different?

If you didn't ask questions just to tell us what you have got, you might get better answers.

And I pity the people who think they have nothing to learn. Of course those who really do have nothing to learn might help the misguided by explaining to them why their opinions and experiences are so laughable.

I thought the original thread title was rather like the " when did you stop beating your wife" one as it is quite apparent the vast majority don't use a dehumidifier at all (or indeed beat their wives)

In the short time that the OP has been on this forum it’s clear that he has learned an awful lot. It’s a shame that he derides the unnamed for not possessing his knowledge.
