There are many companies out there that do conversions but there doesn't seem to be an obvious list of certificates needed... eg gas and electric etc.

Also what is required if buying one second hand ?

As far as I am aware a van conversion would be no different to a coach built one in terms of gas and electric installations if done by a professional converter.
If it is a self build there is no requirement for gas or electrical certification but it is wise to have them as some insurance companies ask for them.
I did my own installations but had them checked out when it was finished.

if you want to change the body type to motorcaravan there is a list of requirements on the dvla website .However there a lot getting refused on the grounds of they dont look like motorcaravans on the outside despite meeting the requirements and there being no guidelines regarding the appearance .Despite the website saying its a legal requirement to re classify
