Looks like a 70's cross flow engine to me, would it be that easy to use a fwd engine/gearbox to run a rear axle?

Looks tidy enough (y)

Xflow better than a boat anchor under the bonnet (y)

That brings back some great memories, I built a Westfield SEiW with 1800 Zetec in 92/93.

That will be fantastic fun for someone .. I'm tempted but don't think I could get my bum into an SE now!
Good luck with the sale and condolences for the loss of your brother.

I agree with @Enword its a Ford "Kent" 1600cc crossflow, a bomb proof & very tuneable power plant albeit a bit crude.
The XR2 engine was a close cousin of the Kent & was called the "Valencia" but had substantial modifications to run in a transverse setup such as the Fiesta & early Mk3 Escorts etc.
Very few parts are transferrable from "Kent" to "Valencia" engine.

Oops sorry for waffling on.

It's a classic with the Xflow in it, with sweet handling, many had The Pinto (Pintosaurus)(Boat Anchor) fitted & was a heavy old beast, its said that the Earths gravity is effected when stockcar meetings are held & they are all running Pinto's :p

Lovely looking car, I toyed with the idea of building the Marlin even bought a Rover V8 engine to drive it but then other things took my time up.

That's a blatant TF rip off, isn't it.
Lovely.

What was that one built on ?
Based on a 1980 ish mk4 Ford Cortina Brian all factory designed plywood panels were replaced with proper fabricated panels inc floor and bulkhead courtesy of R R Engineering at Hucknall.
Sold it 3 years ago Guy in France bought it

Better than original then. I guess the original was the old three bearing crank motor. I paid £100 for that TC with a new engine in it.

And infinitely better than the Herald chassis.

But the Herald turning circle, brilliant just left half the tread on the tarmac on full lock.:)

Problem with the Herald, apart from rot, was the swing axle back end, horrendous if you liked cornering.

Which was a shame for the Vitesse version, what a glorious engine in a chassis not up to it.

There are some right nasty folk on here, you know the sort, that put up photo's of Kit cars that they actually finished, put's us non finishers to shame, I won't be able to look folk in the eye now for days:rofl:
