Hello lovely Funsters

Just arrived on the Bracelands Campsite after a long drive from the south coast. Arrived at dusk after a new calor bottle valve refused to open (another story…)

Filled empty tank with lovely Forest of Dean water, opened kitchen tap, pump running but no water! Drained down to cleaning hatch level to check hose attached to pump - it is. No water circulating but pump is running. Air lock?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

Graham

With out knowledge of your system, difficult to suggest, but if an air lock, have you tried opening all the other taps/flushers to pull the water through?

Is it a submersible pump?

Yes, Cazzer, twin submersible.

Yes, tried opening all three taps. Dribble at first then nothing.

Disconnect hose first to prove pump is actually pumping and not just running.!

Take the shower head off, turn on pump/tap and blow hard down the pipe, works for me

Open a tap and move the pump around in the tank quickly.
Might need a bit more water than what’s in the tank.

Thanks Winger. Now red in face but no joy. Pretty sure it’s not an airlock. At start of season cold tap in kitchen pulls through air just fine.

Thanks Poppycamper. Will defo try that in morning. If pumps gone will swear and ask “nearest camper shop please?” Monmouth or Abergavenny?

We had one fitted to our c'van that failed when away in it.
For info....Could not get the double pump version but got a single version which worked nearly as well until we managed to source the correct one... kept single one as a spare.... never needed it.

If the pump is suspended on the pipe, make sure there is plenty of water in the tank, and get your hand in and grasp the pump with it switched on and a single convenient cold tap turned on. Then bang the pump against the side of the plastic tank.

It works for us to shift an airlock, which frustratingly we nearly always get when the tank has been drained down and left to dry out.

It was advice we received on here after picking our van up from storage in Spain.

Usually splutters a bit and then starts working perfectly. Worth a try. Good luck in any case. (y)

there is a very old trick, turn the shower to cold, take the shower head off. Turn the tap on and suck on the pipe to release the non return valve

I don't think there are any camper shops in Monmouth. The only ones I can think of close by are South Hereford motorhomes or Newport Caravans

Just found this only down the road from where you are https://www.colefordleisure.co.uk/

What, if all else fails hit it with a hammer?

It worked!!!! Few taps on the side of the tank and water is pouring in. Thank you so much Funsters and special thanks to Mikebeeches and Geoffndi.

I am repeatedly amazed by the helpfulness of this Forum. You all amazing people. Thank you.

Graham and Bridget

Good to hear it's sorted. :giggle:

On our previous van, which didn't have a submersible pump, I'd gently tap it with a hammer to persuade it to work following an extended drain down. ;)

There is a camping shop at raglan garden centre on the old Abergavenny Road from raglan.
If you still need one.
