Come to Germany! It's great for motorhoming/van life.
Good day, all.

Our waste water "how much in there" meter has never worked - or did so briefly - but that didn't really matter: we had an idea how much was in there and emptied accordingly. The problem now is that the tank is overflowing and "feeding back". And this might be happening before the tank is full (not sure).

There IS an overflow outlet/pipe, though I don't know yet exactly where it's located. I'm going to look, obviously. (We know there is an overflow outlet because, occasionally, it overflowed.) Common sense suggests that the overflow outlet would be somewhere near the top of the tank. Why, though, might it cease working? Surely it wouldn't get blocked by gunk. Gunk goes to the bottom!

I hope these comments and the direction of my question make sense. Please do you have any comments or suggestions?

I found a 4 inch diameter screw cap “lid” on our waste tank. I undid it and found that the “depth gauge” was immediately above the lid. I gave it a good clean with some degreaser and Robert’s your Mother’s Brother, all working again! Make sure to wear gloves, an old shirt and safety glasses if you have a go yourself! Run the MoHo up on to the highest part of your levelling ramps for access underneath the van.

Cheers!

Thanks. I was under our van today. In our case there is no "top of the tank'' or ''lid'', or to put it another way, the top of the tank is hidden/built into the floor above.

There is, however, a screw-on "baseplate", something I'm a trifle reluctant to mess with, in case taking it off leads to leakage when putting it back.

What I did find, though, is that where the drainage pipe comes out of the van floor and then crosswards and slightly downwards to enter the tank, the sealant is broken. Perhaps he earlier overflow we experienced was leakage from here, though that doesn't explain why, now, waste water is not overflowing but feeding back into the shower area.

Anyway, I've fixed leakage in the sink outflow pipe. Maybe the way to deal with the waste tank is to empty it often.

The screw on baseplate was what i was referring to as a lid. It will have a rubber sealing ring in it. I bet that the thread for this “lid” is square in cross-section and not the usual “v” cross-section. Square is much less likely to cross thread, but also much more likely to leak, hence rubber sealing ring... undo it, i used a large G clamp, and you should find the level indicator measuring thingy above it. When re-sealing use a thin swipe of Vaseline or similar on the sealing ring.

Let us know how you get/got on!!

Cheers!

I may be over-simplifying this, but my rules of thumb is to assume that when I run out of fresh water, I need to empty the waste tank.

Another thought ... drop a bucketful of water into the sink. If the shower backs up as the sink empties, you may well have an obstruction in the waste pipe that's restricting the flow. Shortest route to it for drain unblocker would be via the shower plug.
