Was I in the wrong business?

Just recently I have to go back to main dealer for warranty work. Phoned a couple of hours ago to book appointment only to be told “first appointment available 22nd January”.

I have come to the conclusion that there must be hell of lot faulty mhs out there!!!

Or should I look else where.

A Ps to am I in the wrong business.

As I said I have booked my van for the 22nd Jan. I then thought I would try their other branch, to see if they could get in done quicker.

Answer No Chance no booking for June / July , June I state yes June. My comment was that “there must be a hell of lot faulty vans out there” comment received from the service department “YES THERE IS”

Say no more

I booked my hab service/inspection several weeks ago to be done in February.
Dealers are always booked well in advance, particularly in spring when everyone wants things checked.

Try a FP dealer who is also an Iveco truck dealer. The one I have used for warranty servicing, who are not the nearest to me but one of very few main dealer workshops I have ever been happy with, operate a 24hr workshop and offered me a next day appointment. They laughed at me when I said I thought they would need plenty of notice.

Had two techs working on my van, and hadn't expected to find they were having an in depth discussion on astronomy whilst working! Amazing what a dashcam can pick up whilst your vehicle is plugged in to diagnostics ;)

Dealers may whinge about the rate they get for warranty work, but their sales margins are fat enough and they ought to spend more time on thorough PDIs and snagging before handover. Often the warranty work rate is extra bunce they don't deserve. Quite apart from the inconvenience for the customer through days lost and the cost of diesel for the extra round trip.

Has any Funster taken delivery of a new MH that was faultless?

Yes they told me it was perfect, and it was until it rained on my bed and filled the garage floor with standing water.. As for the dealers waiting time sod them did it faster and a lot better with real thought, and not just do something to move me on.

Correction: you've just not found the faults yet.

Well, it's now 27 months old, and being a bit of a perfectionist I've been all over and under it with my critical eyes fully engaged.

Base vehicle absolutely faultless, but I did order it to my own spec and chose a tried and tested Euro 5+ engine over an as then new and untried Euro 6. No recalls, no faults. I did have the instrument cluster s/w update performed at the 2 year warranty service, but I waited until then as I can't say it ever bothered me beforehand.

Conversion excellent finish and build quality. Nothing I can fault. Everything has been properly finished to my own standards, sealed and painted where necessary, including hidden places that you can only see after some dismantling.

Mains charger developed a fault at just over a year old. Replacement sent out by the converter and arrived the following day. But as I'd had over 12 months use out of it at that point, I can't say that I was delivered a faulty van.

Mrs D accidentally damaged one of the kitchen components after the van was out of conversion warranty. They sent out another replacement free of charge.

Went to the MH show in October and was shocked at some of the poor quality conversions being punted out by a lot of suppliers. And I assume they've taken extra care over preparation of the show examples too

Edit: Oops, nearly forgot - a status indicator lamp in a rocker switch for one of the hab lights failed too. Got an identical replacement for pennies from RS Components and changed it myself.

Wonder if you could say the same if they BUILT motorhomes rather than built furniture and fittings into a pre-built tin box.

Panel vans are built by robots and are programmed to be precise and consistent
A C class is built by humans and humans are programmed to build in errors.

Booked in for our first year hab check, gave dealer plenty of notice, drove it down on the day arrived early, only one fault wardrobe light didnt work, sat and waited, looked arround some "bigger Brother" vans in stock, and any other makes, had a coffee or three, then 3.5 hours later van handed over adjustments made to water pump, Hartel door handle tightened up, full service checklist and Grey Carthago Sticker placed in log book....would I buy another Carthago?....you bet I would.:xThumb:
Now if only Fiat Proffessional's booking system was so efficient, still cant get them to respond to me on their terrible e mail service booking system, will have to physically call them after xmas:mad:

Having owned my fair share of touring caravans and all of their associated problems, why do you think we bought a PVC. We decided that we wanted retirement to consist of enjoyable experiences, not worrying about water leaks and questionable build quality ;)

"Built" by humans maybe a bit of an overstatement in some cases!

Nothing gone wrong with my Burstner Nexxo in three years from new.

I’m delighted with the build quality of our Auto-Sleeper. No problems other than extremely trivial ones (such as a very slightly loose screw in the toilet roll holder :D) after nearly two years.

I phoned our dealer yesterday to have some gear fitted and the Service Manager said I could choose any day from now until Xmas.

He just said that we'll be really quiet for the next couple of months so choose away.

IMO it just means that I've chosen a dealer which sells a selection of brands that don't need warranty work as much as others (y)
