Whilst waiting for my new van I asked my dealer if having an after market alarm system installed (planning on Vanblitz's Growler) would affect the warranty and was told: "fitting an alarm by a 3rd party does not impact on your warranty, the only exception to that is if they have to drill a hole in the bodywork, they would have to take over any warranty on a water ingress side at the point where they pierce the bodywork, and if they connect into the electrics and a fault develops that is directly down to the installation of the alarm, they would also take over liability for that"

As I am sure the Growler will need holes drilled in the body work for the LEDs and connection into the electrics, and being an overly cautious type, should this worry me or not? My initial thoughts was I would stick with a dealer fit option and avoid any problems, but maybe it isn't really a problem.

eddievanbitz will advise you. He's your chap and a member of Fun. No end of Fun folk have had them fitted by him to their brand new m/hs.

I know nothing about alarm systems but it seems to me that dealer is fishing for extra business by fitting the system himself.

I don't think for a minute he is; I have really been impressed with the dealer and there has been no hard-sell of anything and he has provided what I view as real honest advice on anything I have asked.

Any decent after market fitter will treat any drill holes to stop rust and most Alarms get their power feed from the fuse box and its own battery so unlikely to cause any warranty issues re electrics.

In that case what is your concern about having the dealer fit it?

No concern except he can’t fit the alarm system I want (Growler from Vanblitz plus some other bits). If he did, then that is the route I would go but I would rather have the drive down to Taunton and get what appears to be the best fitted 😀

I've recently had a Growler fitted by the excellent team at Van Bitz. All of the very small external holes for the LEDs were drilling in non metallic bodywork so no issue with rust. On the intense setting these blue LEDs compete with Blackpool Illuminations!:giggle:

They also took out the Phantom alarm and tracker (at no cost) which looks very cheap and the tracker is easily jammed, and it cost £699. PS anyone want to buy it??? PM me please.

As a dealer, I can safely say with that system it isn’t a problem!

Think you might just have put any potential sale of your now redundant alarm/tracker in the trash bin there, Kups :lipssealed:
