Hello
We are off to the Lakes on September for a two week road trip. We are looking for suggestions where to park up for the first 3 nights? We want to be in the south of the lakes. We would like a site that we can walk and explore safely from with Archie the Cockerpoo. We have the rest of trip covered.
Thanks for any advice
John

This is a nice place with plenty of pleasant walking and some interesting history. Within 5 miles of my home so haven't used it but know the place.

We stayed at the Camping and Caravanning club site at Bowness on Windermere last October. Great location, walking from the site, 10 minute walk into Bowness for buses, shops, bars and restaurants. 5 minute walk for the ferry across to Far Sawrey with miles of good walking.

Basic site a Coniston Water. Coniston Hall Farm.£22.50 per unit.
No booking required, pitch anywhere. Facilities are basic but clean. Right on waters edge, 20 minutes walk to village, Old Man of Coniston is a cracking .
Pooley Bridge, rear of Sun in. Farmers field, £10 a night. No facilities but water. Pub 20 metres walk.
Keswick club site, handy for town if you can get on it, pricey.

Thought this was to do with Jesus.

Ravenglass C&CC site has nice walks and La'al Ratty....

Keswick c&cc is good for walking round Derwent water And Keswick if you can get on a pitch. Also bus stop outside near waitrose

Thanks very much for all of the replies and suggestions. We have the following sites booked already:
Coniston, Kendal, Troutbeck, Dockray and Keswick.
I just need to find somewhere for the first 3 days when we arrive. We have booked Meathop but were told that the walking around this is area is limited if walking from the site.
We did think about a Britstop for the first night then two nights at a site, so we will see what we can find.
Thanks again
John and Archie The Cockerpoo
