I have just purchased a Maxview Roam mobile Wi-fi unit. It is installed and working perfectly.

However we tour in mainland Europe, and would like to load a VPN to allow to it to allow us to watch things like BBC iPlayer etc when there on our smart tv. The smart tv has this and a number of other Apps which restrict watching outside of the UK.

Has anyone got any experience or guidance on loading a VPN on the Maxview Roam unit - perhaps via its own app?

Cheers

Is your smart TV an Android TV, you may be able to download a VPN client for that?

If you can cast from your phone to your TV then all you need do is install the VPN app on your phone.

Hi Mark

After some liaison with Maxview it appears that it is quite complex to load a VPN onto the Maxview Roam router. As a result, we resolved that my best course of action was to load a VPN (Nord VPN) onto my Amazon Firestick connected to my TV. The TV is a smart tv (JVC) but it will not allow me to load a VPN. Checked with JVC and they confirmed that this model would now allow it. Although only a couple of years old, that model of tv did not have the facility to load any apps outwith its own loaded library. Hope that all makes sense.

As you suggest, I also have the facility to use my iPhone/IPad to ‘mirror’ or ‘cast’ to my tv, as both are also loaded with Nord VPN. Apple as you probably know make that possibility difficult hence my initial reason for wanting a VPN on my Maxview Roam to my TV.

So all good now, in that when travelling outwith the U.K. I can use the Firestick for channels that defect that you are not in the U.K. such as BBC IPlayer etc.

Thanks for your advice.
