As some here have noticed, I am a massive Bowie fan and we now think it’s time to do the V&A Bowie exhibition - and a couple of other things that mean I have to go acquainted with cockney central

So, looking for suggestions of where we can stay and tube / train I to east London - we live in Norfolk so that side preferred

Any ideas or thoughts folk?

We always used Abbey wood camc site.

Not on the East Side but the CAMC site Wyerts Covert is in Denham Bucks. Easy to get into Marylebone Station from the Station in Denham. It's on the Chiltern line and takes about 20 minutes. Brings you right on the Bakerloo line at Marylebone. Hope this helps.

The best site for London is Abbey Wood in south east London

It's a mile off the A2/M2 and 15 mins from the M25 and the Dartford Crossing
It's 10 miles from central London (which by London standards is close in, everyone used public transport after this point anyway)
It's 65 miles from Dover and the Tunnel, so it could be a first stop/last stop, on a trip to the mainland.

It's a 5 minute walk from the Elizabeth Line,
which will get you to central London in 20 mins,

Or
If you are doing a pick up at Heathrow Airport it will get you there (or better still, them to you!) in 45 mins
It's also a direct train line to central London, via Greenwich (Good for a day out after you have done central London)
The train line also has direct trains to Luton Airport via central London.
And trains to Gatwick Airport with one change at London Bridge

The only downsides are:
If you want to go for a meal/beer, local options are limited, but loads in Greenwich which is a few stops on the train away.
It's probably one of the more expensive C&MHC site in the UK, but with good reason.
It's inside the London LEZ. Check your number plate here to see what, if anything, you may need to pay.

There is also a couple of CCC sites just outside the emissions zone.

One N/E London called Theobald's Park (tube into London) and one in Surrey on the mainline to Waterloo via other London stations, called Chertsey. 👍

Strangely, as I'm travelling through Poland atm I saw some signs for Warzsawa 2 days ago and remembered it was a Bowie song from "Low".
I played it at the next campsite to remind me what it was like and then discovered that it was the Polish word for Warsaw!

Every days a school day.

Thanks all

I have booked is into Lee Valley for three nights over a bank holiday weekend

On the Saturday we will do the V&A Bowie collection, and the Lightroom Bowie exhibit/ show

Sunday will be for The Tower - just want my wife to see the selection of girt big axes….

We always stay at the Hertford C&CC site. It's a 40 minute walk or a £7 (used to be a fiver) taxi ride to Hertford East Station with half hourly trains into Liverpool Street. We have family in Hackney and tend to change along the way to a train into Stratford. Hertford has plenty of pubs and eateries and my favourite Wetherspoons and it's very easy to get to from the North and East Anglia. The site is a bit eccentric but it's relatively cheap for a club site and we only sleep there 😴
