My V5N for our Chausson 640 states the Maximum Permissible Mass is 3500kg, but the VIN plate shows 3550kg as the top number, which I assume is the MTPLM. Many places, such as car parks, state no vehicles over 3.5T.

If I am checked by any "official" looking at my VIN plate it would seem that my vehicle can be more than 3.5T - or am I missing something?

That is the Ford VIN plate, there should be a Chausson plate somewhere.👍

Ah - thanks, I'll have a look. So when they build the coachwork, the vehicle may have a lower MTPLM than the underlying Ford chassis?

A lot of motorhome makes keep the weight under 3500 to avoid licence restrictions. Our 2012 Aspire was the same. To keep under 3500 it had a 212 payload. If a fly landed we would be over weight.

Also just found a thread that explains - sorry for the bother!

No problem, always better to ask, basically they keep the weight down so you can drive it on an ordinary licence, but it also lowers the payload 🙁

Like a lot of life, all down to law and tax. The vehicle is legal at the revenue weight, and that is what the V5 states for the excise duty.
