Hi all. I am thinking of getting a Victron Energy SmartShunt 500A Battery Monitor
Where I need to install it, for safety, I would like to put it in a box or cover it - has anyone else fitted on and found a cover for it?

It runs off the negative terminal, so is not that much more dangerous than any other bit of exposed metal connected to the van earth.

I thought that but it is going in a locker so a cover would also protect it if anything was put on or near it

A metal box will cut down the Bluetooth radio signal too much, so you could use a plastic box. ABS. Such as one of these

I'm just changing vans. I had a Victron BMV in the old van. I was going to buy one for the new van. Two considerations:

There are several shunt based battery monitors on Amazon. They don't have Bluetooth, but they are a fraction of the price.
Amazon product ASIN B07W7XXKVF
The other is that several good lithium batteries have a BMV that includes a Bluetooth battery app:

The cheap battery monitors don't have the facilities to input all your battery parameters so you can never get an accurate percentage reading. If you only want as rough a guide a cheap one is fine but if you do a lot of camping off grid and need to know the state of your batteries there is no substitute for the Victron.

The cheap ones work, but aren't anywhere near as good, particularly when it comes to the phone apps.
