Next month I will be travelling from Murcia to the Eurotunnel with a dog. For me That will be about five days. So I'm thinking about the worm treatment.
Is the limit exactly five days to the minute and is there a vet near the tunnel with parking that people use if I am delayed?

Thanks. Mike.

The dogs need treated between 24 and 120 hours before you cross, and yes they do enforce it. We tend to find a vet when we're three or four days away from our planned crossing. They're not hard to find and there is a really useful list on here somewhere.

Yes I've seen someone being sent away because the times don't match. Try looking for a vet 2-3 days from reaching Calais, it will be safer and a lot cheaper.

I normally give the treatment myself, a couple of euros. Does anyone know roughly what a vet might charge?

You must have the treatment done at a vets as date, time, vet stamp etc has to be put in the pets passport. It is also 24hrs to 120 hours (5 days) by time you reach UK not departure. as per Government web site.

I think most vets have caught on now, had ours done last year about 200 miles south and still charged 45 Euros. Rip Off.

That's news to me, I always thought it was departure time. Over the years I've had some horrendous delays on both ferry and tunnel so it must just work on scheduled arrival time.

The treatment must have been given no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours (5 days) before you enter the UK. Your dog can be refused entry or put into quarantine if you don’t follow this rule.

Information your vet needs to record
Check the vet has put the following details in the ‘Echinococcus treatment’ section of your dog’s pet passport or certificate:

  • the name and manufacturer of the product
  • the date and time they treated your dog
  • their stamp and signature

Always worth checking the above before you leave vets as they have been known to put the wrong date by accident, could cause all sorts of problems.

Vets we use is in La mailleraye sur Seine about 200yards from the aire , speaks good english & charges 15 euro's if you bring your own pill.
