Why does the manufacturers plate on my vehicle show loads as 1800kg front axle and 2000kg rear = 3800kg, but the vehicle is rated at 3500kg....does this mean it is robust enough and could be uprated to 3800kg if my driving license allowed ???

The dofference in weight is to allow an axle load to be at the plated max but the other axle must be unloaded by the same weight as the axle is loaded.
IE:
Front 1700kg
Rear 2000kg
Gross 3500kg
Load rear to 2000kg the front must be unloaded to max 1500kg to remain in the 3500kg gross.
I think the gross can be uprated to 3700kg but this allows nothing for uneven loading.

It has been plated at 3500kg to allow it to be driven on a B licence. You could fairly easily up-plate it to 3800kg but would then need a C1 licence to drive it. Perfectly normal, my axle weights add up to 3850kg but it has been registered and plated at 3500kg.

There is normally a base vehicle manufacturers plate, then a chassis manufacturers plate, then the converters plate.
So in theory you could have a Peugeot plate an Alko plate, and a Bailey plate. All may variate as the Peugeot plate could be 3500 on a lightweight chassis, the Alko weight could be 3850 meaning it could be up-plated and could take the weight then the Bailey plate could be 3500 which means they took the decision to leave it at that.
What van do you have? What do your chassis plates say?

My old Autocruise was 3500Kg and we up-plated to 3920Kg with no extra bits as tyres were already sufficient. That was the Maxi Ducato chassis.

Just means you can’t max out each axle, you have to stay within 3500kg

Just weighed my Ducato 5.4 metre Campervan, and was happy that it’s 3240 Kg. Both axles also well within their respective limits. 👍🏻
For interest, I had 50% water (50L) 50% fuel (45L) solo traveller, with 35Kg Labrador, mountain bike plus dog trailer, plus other bits & bobs. Even maxxing the fuel and water wouldn’t bust the 3500 limit or the individual axle weights
