Vehicle tax

Hi Everyone newbie here after some advice. We are about to buy a motor home from a local dealer who says we will have to tax the vehicle once we purchase it . However when I look up the plate on the DVLA checker it says the vehicle tax is not due until May 22 . This makes sense as the vehicle will be 12 months old then and I assume had 12 months tax bought originally. Is the dealer advising me correctly? Any thoughts or opinions please ? Many thanks.

Vehicle tax cannot be transferred from one owner to another. The previous owner will get a refund from the DVLA for the remaining months of the tax and you will have to tax it in your name.

Your dealer is correct. You will need to tax it from the start of the month you purchase it. Any left over tax needs to be reclaimed by the dealer or previous owner.

Additionally do you know the date of registration? It can make a big difference to the cost of taxing it.

As above……check date of first registration, the tax rate for vehicles registered in a small window of time have to pay many hundreds of pounds more than earlier or later registered vehicles.

Not sure what the exact dates are so wouldn’t want to give you the wrong information.
