New to motorhomes 2019
I had a quick look through previous threads but can't see this specific topic.

After leaving EU it looks like importing even a used motorhome will attract UK vat.

After emailing an importer/exporter today he is convinced that exporting a UK registered back to EU for resale after 3 years will have EU vat applied as well.

Anyone else seen this or have further information as it may affect achievable part ex prices?

Extract below

' re-sale / re-import in the EU after 3 years results in another EU VAT charge to the buyer for non-EU vehicle imports.'

We imported a 2nd hand A class Nov. 2020, one previous German owner ,who had paid the German VAT on purchase.
Visited several German and Belgium dealers last Summer, with a view to PX'ing for a new one. None of them were interested in taking in a UK registered vehicle, even though the vehicle origin & tax paid was in EU.

To sell in an EU state the vehicle would have to be imported/matriculated into that countries tax system and number plates.
Each country will have their own procedures and costs but there will be some VAT element, possibly some time limits apply I don't know about that.
I recently matriculated a campervan into Portugal, not an easy procedure and quite costly.

In 1972 i imported my car from Zambia and understood at the time if it was more than 2 years old there was no tax to pay. Get in touch with HM Customs or is HMRC to find out what is the UK import duty on a used, say three year old vehicle

Thanks for that link, it has answered a query that I had about re importing my campervan into the UK and any duty payable.
Apparently no import duty or VAT is payable if the vehicle is re imported by the same person that exported it within 3 years of it's export.
I am not sure why you quoted my post with the link included as I have already exported my vehicle and currently have no plans to re import it to the UK.
The OP was asking about VAT on importing into the EU and the 3 year limit which seems likely after reading your useful link regarding importing into the UK.

Had a word with my Belgium dealer for him it was no problem taking my UK registered van in part ex.
