Saw this budget security device on Dragons Den https://vanguardian.co.uk/ & they didn't invest but thought it may be the one that got away?! As always it is just another deterrent but prices quoted were £100-£200 (plus VAT) so the price point may make it worth a look? False alarms & with it being stuck on would be a concern bodywork wise if wanted to remove it, are the questions that spring to mind. The VanGuardian website crashed tonight after the tv show (can't get in atm) & lots of excited talk on Facebook about using it for other applications not just vans. Has anyone got one or seen it in action?

Many variations on the market, biggest problem is where can you use it?

OK presumably OK in the middle of a field, other than spending the night as a nervous wreck twitching the blinds every time a badger or fox meanders by!

Think the wildlife would only set it off if they bumped into the van?! 🦊 🦡
It uses, at its core, highly responsive tri axial accelerometers to detect minimal contact, and with highly efficient microchip technology we are able to program it to ignore the rocking from strong wind. Each unit has seven levels of ‘fine tune’ sensitivity for the end user to adjust, to tackle individual levels of exposure and the worst of heavy rain conditions to eliminate false alarms.

To answer my other concern - reading the full FAQ at bottom of this page https://vanguardian.co.uk/ it should be possible to remove it without harm to paint or bodywork - it does destroy the base plate but spares available & affordable so can be transferred to another vehicle. Again hoping that someone has tried this out - maybe on a works van?

Again, it’s not new technology

if they’ve fine tune it to ignore rain imagine sitting in your camper, terrified move for fear of setting the ’pipping off’ lol

Drop the Gin bottle and that would be it 😁

Under 15 quid, 130dB, which is considerably louder than 110dB

Just remembered I bought one of these for my last bike

again fifteen - twenty quid on line with a 3m sticky pad

My opinion... If you are going to fit any alarm fit a full blown system not a cheap gimmick like this.

If you want to spend £200 look at getting deadlocks fitted if you haven't already got them.
Invest in a pedal box.
Invest in a safe for your money and rolex.

Hi has anyone had one installed? It’s been a couple of years since the post

Do a search and you'll find several members have fitted them including me. No, they don't go off if you move around the van and yes they can go off in heavy rain, however they are fully adjustable for sensitivity. I have been very happy with mine so far and others also do not think they are a waste of money.

They are not a substitute for a full blown integrated system but neither are they the price of such. You pays your.money etc.

Great thank you, think I will get one at least it’s a deterrent 👍

I have all my doors on my van covered and also the panic button as well.

I also have hook locks on all my doors plus an Alarm and a steering wheel lock.

So far they have been good, no issues but I use them as a deterrent and that’s it, the hook locks stop the not wanted from opening the doors but nothing stopping them from smashing the glass.

I have just purchased them using the above code(thanks) they are very loud! They are a bit expensive, but how much is a new door! If it puts a would be robber off then it’s worth it

I don’t think you’ll get deadlocks fitted for £200. We had 4 fitted to our panel three years ago, the cost was £675. They were fitted by a one man band so no VAT involved.

My thoughts were, to set a vehicle alarm off, you usually have to have caused damage and have either broken a window or have broken into a hab door to set the alarm off. If on the first tap or try of a handle the noise vanguardian emits may put a burglar off from further attempts. I agree it’s no replacement for a correctly installed full alarm system, plus steering lock, door lashing or deadlocks, tracker or anything else the owner wishes to use. Its all about layering up deterrents. If it causes a would be robber to move onto another van it’s paid for itself.

I fitted my own, admittedly a lot more than 4 years ago. I probably didn't look at the costs back when I made that post (the post is 3 years old). I have just wondered how much they had shot up due to recent extremely high inflation.

A few points here.
1. They are not that hard to install any competent diyer can do them.
2. Hook ones are better but these are way better than any other security device in my opinion.
3. Even at £600 I would put these in before I put an alarm in especially an el cheapo option like that above.

With Alarms, do it right or don't bother.

PS: Just looked at the hook locks. Only need on sliding and rear doors. Doesn't add too much. Less than £10
