My husband is in hospital and he wants me to start our van up. I managed this 10 days ago but am getting absolutely nothing from it today. Where is the battery in an Eldiss Chatsworth van and how can I tell whether it is a version with a start and stop system or a version without a start and stop system The van is only 6 months old

First thing, don’t worry about this, hubby’s health is more important

the start stop aspect is irrelevant

is it on hook up, or can it be, that will recharge the battery which is almost certainly flat

If you can’t get it on hook up, do you have breakdown cover? I would suggest calling them , then watch what they do for next time

As above try hook up connection leave at least 1-2hrs, If no luck look at the vans handbook manual, take indoors read through having a coffee, ensure no alarms, tracker devices, radio`s are left on. If not confident in jump staring or getting friendly neighbour/garage having a look leave well alone. Hubby comes first when he is better both can then venture into the issue, something he will enjoy showing you

Quite right. Don't worry about it.
I expect he's fretting/frustrated that he's not there to do it himself. After all, there's little else to do in a ward.

Ideally the battery needs to be recharged but if not possible the absolute worst that could happen is that you might need to replace the battery before you next have the chance to travel. I'm sure neither of you will fret about paying a hundred quid for a new battery when hubby is back home.

At worst it's only a battery your husband's and your health are far more important. The MH will come to no harm forget it!
Wishing your husband gets back to good health very soon

It's not a good idea to try jumpstarting it. It's been known to damage the airbag ecu.

The starter battery is under a panel in front of the passenger seat.

It isn't uncommon for an alarm etc to drain the battery. As others have said, worst case is a new battery.

I'm in Middlewich. If your not to far away I'd happily pop over and charge it for you. Hope your husband is okay.

i believe the van is fiat, and if only 6 months old you are covered by Fiat CAMPER ASSIST breakdown, get them to send out the Rac / aa.

If van is only 6 months old be careful with what you do, it could invalidate warranty. As already stated get break down out.
Hope husband is going to be ok.

Don't worry about it.
If it wont start today, it wont start in a fortnight ;)

cold weather kills batteries quite quickly. Even with solar panels you will need to charge the batteries at least every other week

The other thing is that just starting the engine and leaving it to idle for 20 minutes does it no good at all and can cause damage if done regularly. If David Wissel is near you, please consider his kind offer of help
