Van Unit tripping on home hookup

Check the wires at the hookup on the van , i have seen a few that have melted (I run a campsite) due to poor quality wire and running heating for long periods of time in the winter, usually just a few screws to pull them of and look , much more common on caravans.

Why? Have you proved the rcd is faulty yet? First check wiring as suggested. Maybe the rcd is doing its job as it should, and protecting because a fault is present. Simple visual check of connections with dead/ unplugged circuits.and if nothing obvious next point will be alde element as that can have a leakage to earth.
Changing the RCD is last resort, after you proved there is no fault in any circuits or feed in to that RCD.
In fairness a sparky with a low ohm meter will pick up the fault within minutes.

Of course being motorhome lots of stuff hidden. Also I'm not an electrician. Which being son of one is a bit embarrassing. And unfortunately he's not here with us any longer

Our Hymer has the Reich controller and also has a second battery charger that I think runs independently from the controller

Until you have physically disconnected everything from the output of the RCBO, you can't be sure there is not a fault. So replacing it would seem a hasty expense?

Just turning of appliances does not necessarily disconnect them and it doesn't rule out an issue with the wiring mice in an unreachable location for instance.

If it were me I would be disconnecting the output of the RCBO before doing anything else. This will confirm if the RCBO is faulty or not.

PS: Can you unscrew the cover over the RCBO and take a picture of how it is wired behind please?

Thought I had problem with my Alde 3000 compact boiler electric was tripping inside.
I have now ruled that out but can't got the life of me work out what's happening.
So I tried another lead no different. I then checked all the connections on plugs all ok. I've turned everything off. Control power battery charger etc. It has a Reich box I've turned it off at panel.

I can't for life of me think what it can be please please throw some ideas at me Thanks

Ensure you remove the EHU lead first ! Remove all plugs from the sockets. This will then disconnect any neutral connection so both poles are isolated ie live and neutral . Then if anything else is connected ie heating fridge etc may sure they are disconnected on both poles . Reset the trip to see if it does not trip . If it resets then slowly reinstate each appliance and plugs into the sockets . If then one individual appliance trips the RCBO you have then found the issue.

So I've played about today. Cleaned checked any electrical connection I could get to. Re checked my lead and plugs. Unplugged fridge and anything that could be.

I've now ruled out fridge, ruled out boiler although I can only turn it off as it's connected to Reich box I think.
Now I'm thinking it's the charger in the Reich unit. Because I turn electric in via Reich display and I can run a hairdryer flat out for a while no problem. Then leave it sit and wait and it trips so I assume it must be the internal battery charger popping the trip!
That makes sense to anyone ? I will ring applejack tommorow see what they reckon. And take van to them. I've replaced the box few years ago I'm not doing it again. Laying on the freezing floor in various yoga positions replacing another.

30ma much more suitable, that's what we all have in our houses, 10ma far too sensitive.

I got round to changing RCB and now no tripping. However boiler isn't working. I've been in touch with Alde and neither them or myself can determine what heating element I have. And its no longer available anyway.
So only thing I can do is go to Alde
and get them to look. Unfortunately I can't do anymore than they suggested. It's not my thing for one. And i can't scramble around the floor in these tight spots.
I've been proper ill since returning from a cruise wife also so had to cancel my knee replacement. So unfortunately going to be a while until I can make trip
Does anyone know if they can put a newer one in ? Must be looking at a good few thousand
