Because the useless handbrake will finally get sorted out! :giggle: The rest of the MOT was perfect.
I‘ve had my tag axle for nearly 4 years now and it’s been crap since I bought it. I don’t honestly know how it’s passed the last 2 times but it didn’t this time. It’s not as if I’ll be using it anytime soon anyway. It’s going back in after Easter for a full rear strip down and freeing up session. The rears on the foot brake were perfect so it has to be linkages and or cables.
He did say the front discs look like they’ve been really hot at some stage. I said I’d been down the Alps and had them smoking at one stage and he said that would’ve done it!
He’s also going to sort the cab air con out too cos that packed up last year. Hey ho. Hopefully it’ll be ready by the time lockdown eases a bit. (y)

Well you have had plenty of time to save for a big bill ☹️☹️

There's a specific sequence to adjust the handbrake. If the order of adjustment isn't followed the handbrake will be crap.
It could also be the handbrake SHOES are worn within the 'tophat' disc.

In the file of paperwork I got with the van there’s a receipt for new handbrake shoes about 5 years ago. There’s not a chance they’d have worn out that quick. I hope. On a 14 year old van I reckon it’s just seized up.

They will probably just need cleaning and setting up properly. That’s all mine required to make massive improvement

Just had mine done today after the recent MOT and service - the garage always take photos and show me with anything; shame I ignored the ones last MOT about the exhaust....... New disc$ and pad$

Yes, they did that with mine and the advisory for the last 2 years finally disappeared

Its surprising how much rust & crap gets inside the inner part of the disks on the rear of any vehicle. If the handbrake works most garages leave it well alone as it would involve too much time to take the disks off the vehicle and clean them up with brake cleaner, the lubricate and reassemble. I guess that the only time this can be expected to be done properly is when the rear disks have to be changed, which again is not often. It doesn't do any harm, even if DIY in checking all linkages/tensioners and grease nipple points under any vehicle, especially after winter use on salted roads.
Good luck, as said I hope the bill for such work is not too high.

I hope you get sorted easily, the garage I use was passed a motorhome by another garage. They had changed every part in the rear brakes and had been unable to get it to meet mot standard. My handbrake was rubbish from new, until I had it rebuilt with new disks.

I had all new discs discs pads on my tag. Hbrake was still crap I had a row with garage never to return. Every year I had hassle mot time last year I bought all new alko cables. Fitter fitted them and now all is well.
He reckons art of system of cables was seized and badly adjusted and previous fitters hadn't been bothered to touch it.

Got my van MOT’d now. (y) My local garage fetched my van on Monday and brought it back yesterday. Brilliant service.(y)
I got them to re charge the air con and do an oil and filter change while it was there.
The handbrake is the best now than on any vehicle I’ve ever owned! :giggle:
No new parts needed just a full strip down, wire wool everything, grease up pivots and reassemble. Amazing what a difference it’s made. Very happy.
