Van drivers in UK will need new operating licences to enter EU from May

Having tacos fitted in vans etc has been bubbling away for years long before we left the eu

Does that include motorhomes ?

and caravans.

One way legislation is to say the least unhelpful and for the sake of business should be reciprocal to prevent one way barriers to trade.
You need to speak with the negotiators, they are the ones who have agreed to this. In the mean time the U.K. is a fabulous place to travel around in the MoHo

It's long been the case that operators 'O' licenses are needed for any goods vehicle above 3.5t when used for commercial carriage of goods. They need tachographs as well. If it's own goods then you don't need to be professionally qualified by exam (CPC National, or International if going abroad) but for chargeable carriage then you need one as well as the usual requirements such as maintenance provision , solvency, driver's hours records etc. Not to be confused with the drivers CPC. I doubt the EU will extend this to public or leisure transport, that would be very unwise and a minefield. Especially if we retaliated.

It says transportung goods for hire or reward so it should apply to l was leisure vehicles I assume?

It's not.. it's a shit place to travel around in, whilst there are some fabulous places to visit, actually driving around with constent traffic jams almost everywhere, makes it a pain.

Important bits from our point of view is this;

What transport companies and couriers need to do to use vans and car and trailers over 2.5 tonnes to transport goods in and out of the UK from 21 May 2022.

You will not need a goods vehicle operator licence if any of these apply:
  • you only use your vehicles in the UK
  • you are transporting goods on a non-commercial basis (not for ‘hire or reward’)
So it is plainly clear this is about transport companies and couriers. It doesn't affect motorhomes, caravans or non-commercial use.

The actual facts straight from the government.

So, yet another sensationalised headline that doesn’t really have anything to do with holiday makers, tourists etc. The new rules only apply to carriage of goods for hire or reward. Yep, another none story.

It was in the Guardian did you expect any different. That rag is the left wing version of the Daily Mail and just as bad in my opinion.
