using Passports in future in EU

According to Government sources as I understand it there will be no period of grace on expiry date , for example if you have had a Passport renewed and any time that was left on the old one up to the allowed time ,you will no longer be allowed for example you have 12 months and 3weeks on your Passport, the EU won't allow the extra time over 12 months as I understand it. but, don't take this as Gospel please
 
The important date on the passport will be its commencement, not expiry date. You'll not be able to use a passport than is more than 10 years from its date of issue - and I think you'll need to have at least 6 months validity on it when you travel, or perhaps even the latest date you're likely to be in the country.
