Our new UK Global Health Insurance Cards - replacing the EHICs - arrived in the post this morning! (y)

Our EHICs expired in late November last year and managed to apply online for the new ones between Christmas and New Year, as soon as the relavent Govt page went live.

They are valid for 5 years and to all intents and purposes, appear to do exactly what the EHICs did, with the addition - according to the letter attached - "You may also be covered for necessary healthcare in some non-European countries. Check the Gov.uk foreign travel advice for the country you're planning to visit."

All a bit ironic, just at the moment I guess... ;) :giggle:

Anybody else got one yet?

Currently Its an EHIC in all but name it seems :sneaky:

https://www.gov.uk/global-health-insurance-card:

You can use a GHIC or an EHIC if you’re travelling to an EU country.

You cannot use a GHIC or an existing EHIC in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland. You’ll need travel insurance with healthcare cover.

You can use a UK passport to get medically necessary healthcare in Norway (for example emergency treatment, or to treat a pre-existing condition).

It would be great if the new card Is accepted by even one more country than it was when it was the EHIC.

Received ours yesterday. Took around 4 weeks from applying.

So at present the Global Health Insurance Card can be used in less countries than the previous European Health Insurance Card? Still, at least it wasn't binned completely as were told would happen by our 'Ministers'

Mike nice to here from you again, hope the batteries are going strong. Give regards to Grenadier Rusty.

Had our cards arrive last week , they look quite smart I only hope they will work if we need them but hopefully want need them.
