has anyone read the compelling reasons list for travel into France? Right at the bottom I think it says something about transiting France in 24 hours. Can anyone help. We are booked to leave for eurotunnel travelling to Spain eventually on 27 December and are thinking maybe we should postpone or try and find out if we would be allowed to go if transiting through France. If anyone can help with any further translating skills/knowledge it would be much appreciated.

I think you have to isolate for 48 hours before you can move on and then only with negative test, PCR presumably.

I would check with the French embassy and get written confirmation then you can show that if it is allowed, if not its 2 days in Calais and get a 2nd test before moving.

The transit provisions apply only to airport transit, so tourism to France is off limits from Friday midnight

Who can now travel to France from the UK?

Under the new rules imposed by France for travellers arriving from the UK, there is a list of "compelling reasons" needed to justify a trip.
A statement from the French prime minister's office lists them as:
  • Being someone working in the land, maritime and aerial transport sectors
  • French citizens with wife/husband/partner and their children
  • EU citizens with wife/husband/partner and children who have a main residence in France, or are in transit to a main residence in a country of the EU
  • Citizens from outside the EU who have a resident permit in France or a long-stay visa, with a main residence in France
  • British workers from the public sector such as border guards or customs officers
  • People working for the Channel Tunnel
  • Travellers in transit for less than 24 hours in French airports' international zones

Thanks everyone, postponing tomorrow and trying to postpone insurance cover too the tests well if we lose £58 we do, will cancel the pups vets appointment. So much to think of but completely understand where they are coming from. Thanks again for the clarity 😊

If you already have the tests and are unused you can keep them for later. I have 2 antigen tests from July that I'll use early next year.
