I need to replace all 4 tyres on my Peugeot Boxer-based Eldiss. I hadn't realised until now that at 11 years old, they are a bit past their use-by date, to put it mildly.

How do the folks on here feel about “Budget” tyres. Apparently at Kwik-fit I can pay around £140-160 per tyre, or fit budget tyres for around £95 each. Surely even the budget tyres must conform to all required standards and be perfectly fine. I guess they are probably made in China (a bit of a sore point at the moment, I know). Given the choice, what would you do?

I have usually gravitate towards the likes of Michelin, Continental etc and pay for the privilege of a well known "name" I recently fitted a set of Falken's which were about 50% cheaper than the big names but I was impressed with them.

I still wouldn't fit something I hadn't heard of though.

IMO It really depends on how/where you use your van

I travel through Germany and as such need winter tyres with this symbol

It's worth reading the revised rules including changes from July 2020:

Also look at EU ratings for wet grip, fuel efficiency & noise (bear in mind if doing comparisons that they are rated by size - different sizes of the same tyre may have different ratings

On my van, the fronts last about 25,000 miles & the rears still had loads of tread left after 60,000 miles (I changed the rears because of age)

I did lots of research and went for General Eurovan A/S 365

The wet grip is noticeable better, they are no noisier than any others and so far it looks like there'll last as long as 'ordinary' tyres (I once needed to go up an ice covered hill near my home, I was the only vehicle to get up it)

I have previously used General Grabbers on my 4wd vehicles, so am ok with the brand

As they are Van tyres, there is no issue with weight

Some on here swear by camper tyres, some don't - might be worth doing a search, you'll find lots of differing opinions! (I think their main claim is that they are good for vans that are parked up a lot ?)

Mine were £100 per corner fitted by a local company

I (normally!) do about 10,000 miles a year and travel at around 75mph where conditions allow

So, there is no simple answer but I would only go with a brand I'm familiar with & check EU labels for noise in particular

Hope this helps

I fitted a couple of Laufenn tyres to the back of my autotrail.Made by Hankook & had a higher load rate than mitchelin & continental.very happy with them.

Mine are 3 years old & done 24,000 I will be changing before the next big trip I'm going to fit winter tyres or 4 season tyres with the snowflake rating. I'm fed up with the low grip level & hard ride of the Michelin Campers. I will go for a mid range tyre around £100 for 225 x 16".

I was a tyre fitter in a past life & in days of yore you'd stay well away from "unbranded" tyres but, not anymore so it might be quite acceptable to go for whatever you like.
One word of warning though, if your the kind of person who doesn't use their motorhome all winter, I'd stick to a known brand.

The way I see it is, what is quality worth. If it costs £70 to buy a budget tyre and £100 for a qualty item, the price of quality is really only £30 as you had to buy a tyre anyways.

And then they stitch you up £160 for a camping tyre with hard ride & lousy grip, well Michelin do, Conti's aren't so bad.

So are many 'quality' tyres

Michelin, Goodyear, Yokohama and Continental “they're all there building tires in China” Mielko said, adding that Pirelli's biggest factory is located there

Having tried Michelin and Conti - Conti are better
