Always learning.
Morning all,,quick question on the above,,I’ve been trawling through the manual ( which is a job on its own ) and the closest info I can get about the correct tyre pressure states that it should be 5 bar all round,,does that sound right to you all? Just seems a bit high..I can’t get get to check her plate as she’s at her country estate at the mo,, ( storage facility ),so any views would be great,,,she is a 2012 Bessacar E 572,,cheers(y)

It seems that the most accurate method of establishing the correct pressure is to weigh the vehicle and get the weight on each axle. Then Email the tyre manufacturer who will give you the correct pressures to use

This is what I got:

Weighbridge Readings with passenger & kit for 3 days incl 2 electric bikes, ¾ + tank diesel, ¾ tank water, 2 calor cylinders, no waste or black water)

3060kgs / Front 1560kgs / Rear 1480kgs

TYRES

Vanco Campers Continental 225/75 R16 CP 116 R 69 PSI

TYRE PRESSURES

Front and Rear recommended in handbook - 79.5 PSI 5.5 Bar

Continental Technical Dept recommendations based on Weighs:

Front Axle: 1560 Kg - 3.0 bar/ 43.5 psi (maximum weight for pressure given= 1730kg)

Rear Axle - single fitment)1480 Kg - 3.0 bar/ 43.5 psi (maximum weight for pressure given= 1840kg

You can also do a quick check here:

Tyre pressures are often quoted for maximum load, 5.5 bar is quite normal on the rear but 5 bar on the front will give a boneshaker ride 4 to 4.5 is more normal on the front.
As said depends on your running weight, if you contact Michelin they always give 5.5 for the rear tyres Conti are more sensible.

Thanks for that,,A trip to the weighbridge is in order,,,

Continental do a comprehensive catalogue with size, load rating, tyre maximum load and pressures,

Down at about page 90 for van tyres, as far as I am concerned its just the size and the load rating that matters and then you need your axle weights as has been stated already, tyres are tyres so I would be happy to use these tables for other makes as well as continental.

That calculator gives 5.5 Bar for my rear tyres, about 2 Bar more than my manual gives. I then halved my actual rear axle weight to see what would happen but it still put it in at 5.5 Bar. At this point I was getting suspicious that this calculator was not taking any account whatsoever of the rear axle weight so I started reducing it incrementally to see what happened. Eventually I got down to a ridiculous 1kg and guess what, it was still giving a rear tyre pressure of 5.5 Bar. In other words it is taking no account whatsoever of rear axle weights. I thought over inflated tyres were supposed to be dangerous.

I don’t trust the calculator, indeed I think it is a pile of poo. I will follow my Carthago Manual, at least it makes sense.

I found the same, I was surprised at the difference between front and rear, my front is 1750Kg max and rear 1900Kg. It gave a result of 63 front and 80 rear. Then input 1900 for the front and it gave a result of 66!

Like you, I go by the Carthago manual.
The pressures advised by Michelin are plan daft. You’ll end up with chattering teeth and wobbly eyeballs. :Eeek:

Hi Wabs

I just went through this. The Tyresafe website was VERY different to the Continental manual.

A simple email to Continental with the weights and tyre detail and I had a reply in a couple of hours.

The Tyresafe recommendation would have had me massively over inflating the tyres..... I would not use this website if you have Continental tyres.

All the best

Bloody hell, this is turning into a minefield,,firstly thanks to you all for you time and advice,it’s muchly appreciated,, I’m still in the dark here!,,

Yes,it is a minefield. There are numerous other threads on here on the same subject, which are worth looking at,if you have the patience!
I have Michelin Agilis and go with 5.5 rear and 4.5 front.
Try that and see how you go. If you haven’t got one already, buy a decent pump so that you can adjust the pressure easily. Ring900 is a good one imo.
