I've just checked my Continental Camper Van Contact tyres at 12000 miles and they have loads of tread left, but got to wondering what kind of mileage I should be expecting from them.

I appreciate that driving style and payload etc will result in differences, but just as a general idea, those of you that replace tyres due to wear, rather than age, what kind of miles are you getting from a set.

Ducato front wheel drive, 3 litre .4500kg
Front circa 24k, with about 2.5/3mm left.
Rears .Never

Peogeot front wheel drive .2.2 litre, 3500kg
Front sold van at 28k, still legal
Rears .Never

Both vans on michelin tyres

Got 32,000 miles out of the front ones on our 3.5t PVC. They could have been run on for a few thousand more but we were about to set out on a long trip. The rear tyres were then put on the front but I'll probably change them next year but then only on age, 6 years, though I suspect the amount of tread would easily allow them to run on to 40,000 or more. I'm running the tyres at Continental's recommended pressures which at 48 psi are much lower than the vehicle handbook pressures but wear is very even across the tread. Wheels are 16".

I'm sure I got nearly 40k out of a pair, changed them at 2mm and six years old. Continentals.

I like to rotate the tyres occasionally to alleviate tyre uneven wear problems.

Last year I spent an uncomfortable couple of hours doing this and then a month later at service I was recommenced to change them because of age related cracking, won't be doing that again, getting too old:)

I have since done 13000 miles on the new tyres with 8mm left on front, 9mm rear, Bridgestone Duravis.

30,000 miles now and about 5mm left on the fronts. Continental campers (y)

First set of Continentals I bought - 28000 on front, 50000+ rears (changed due to age). These are Conti Vanco Winter 2.
Since then I've moved rears to front when they're worn out and, on the advice of tyre fitter, put the new ones on rear.

To be fair I never run tyres down to the minimum. Oh yes and I use Conti recommended pressures.

So far have changed the van before the tyres wore out but doing a lot more mileage these days. 1st van still had 5mm after 29,000 on the front and rear 7mm.
Do remember some countries min tread depth in the winter is 3mm, Also I will change mine when down to 4mm, its a heavy vehicle prefer to be safe than sorry for the sake of a few quid.

25-35,000 miles is average for the driven tyres on any van. be that motorhome, delivery or builders van

917 miles on the clock and they're still going strong:whistle:
