A picture would be handy as Autotrail, like many others, have fitted all sorts over the years.
If there is not a big ally 'stick' inside the roof directly below the aerial it is not the type that can be extended

It's probably one of these..... Waste of roof space.

More than toes wet now!
Think it's a "fixed" aerial mounted on the roof )off-side) directly above where the tv is located. Not round like the one shown in PJ's post but more "Starship Enterprise!" shaped.

Edit, you can just see it in this photo -

Yes, same thing updated.
Still a waste of roof space. They are omni directional so pull in a signal from any direction and as such the signal will be very much attenuated (weaker) if you get one at all.
They work fine if you're very close to a transmitter mast.

Strange that mine works fine both here in UK and abroad very little adjustment required to tune

Signal good in parts of both Spain and France. Over 50 stations in some places but they talk foreign, which I have yet to master.

Always when stopping the night in different places we need to go through the process of auto tuning on our TV. If you are not doing that it may be the problem.

If you have a pole you DON'T have an omnidirectional aerial.... It a directional one.
There's no need for a pole as an omni pulls in signals from 360° automatically.

Yes do know that bit like RDF
For the past 10 years or more the omni works fine with the digital signal

I did the normal menu search/setup/autotune as I do every time we go away, last few venues the TV found zilch in Digital Stations, so I threw the TV remote down as you do, when OH says to me "can I have a go" I said what!?? you wouldn't have a clue where to start, you will end up with the manual out, sitting there getting all frustrated, its just not worth it Darlin, forget the TV or put a DVD in it if you want to watch something.
Anyhow I went outside, went for a walk, emptied the cassette at the Elsan point, filled up the water tanks for the morning shower....walked in, and yes you guessed it, she is sat there watching the news!!! To which I said...how the hell did you do that?, you saw me have a go and there was nothing doing, so what did you do differently?, how did you do it?
To which she replied " I dunno really, I just had a twiddle on the buttons"

I will be testing her on Solar Power regulators & B2B chargers next week, see how she gets on with that lot eh?
Thats life eh?:D

The TV booster in the cupboard normally has a very small LED light showing when it’s switched on. If you cannot see that light look very closely at the booster and you should see a very small switch that sometimes needs a fingernail to turn it on. If you get a result with a light turning on - you then need to go to auto-turning on your TV (some have a press button on the remote) then select country etc and let your TV find the TV signals available in the area that you are staying at. Good Luck.
