Hi
Just about to replace my Shurflo water pump which is leaking through the seal at the top, decided to replace the pump instead of repairing, just would like to ask, which electrics on my motorhome should I turn off/disconnect before changing

I know it's only 12v, but would like advice on what should be disconnected, battery, fuse etc before replacing the pump.

thanks in advance

If you know which fuse it is, take it out whilst you carry out the work.

thanks for reply, will take out fuse as suggested, hopefully the easiest way to prevent any electrical problems

turn off the switch marked with a tap usually. That kills power to that circuit. No need to pull the fuse if nobody is daft enough to turn it back on. Then shorting would blow the fuse

The quickest way to check you have the right switch is turn on a tap, if the pump starts it's the wrong one etc

with 12v, negative earth, there is no current at all on the negative wire, so perfectly safe

ok, thanks for all the advice, tomorrows project, have decided to change, filter, accumulator and pump at the same time, looking at the parts fitted, they all have 2007 dates on, for when Motorhome was born, so they have all lasted well.

again, many thanks

That is good advice unless you dont have a separate isolation switch for the pump. My Globecar doesn't so the only way to isolate the pump is to remove the fuse.

I have exactly the same problem and i same as you am going to replace the pump instead of the gasket or seal. Good luck.

But you have a submersible pump with micro switched taps, with a pressure switch you always have a switch inline with the pump.

I understand the first part of the above up to micro switch taps, but unlike other mhs that I have owned that had a separate pump switch allowing you to isolate the pump my mh does not have one, which makes winterising tricky. As you empty the water tank and open the taps to avoid frost damage, without an isolation switch the pump will run when the habitation power supply is activated. To avoid this happening I remove the pump fuse allowing me to have light in the habitation area, whilst water tank is empty.
