Just Curious to know if anyone has installed a sim in their Truma Inet+ box and,

What is it?
Who with?
How much?
What do you get?

Thanks for any answers

Yes, O2 Classic PAYG, £10 initial top up I think, texts (which is how you communicate with the iNet) are 2p each. Works fine, absolutely no problems. Not sure I understand “what do you get”?

Same as Captain Pants, O2 PAYG. Works fine, the same Sim I had in the Alde remote. The Alde had issues with Three and Vodafone, so I stuck with O2 which worked. I would therefore advise O2

I use SIM as in the link below:

It’s a type of PAYG. You can do all the top ups etc on line, view balance and so on. Low text rates and usually specifically for things like Truma Inet, alarms and so on. It’s also roaming so it will latch on to whatever provider it can to get a signal rather than just one, useful in remote areas where signals are poor or only available to certain providers. Used it a fair bit and never had any issues.

Hope link works!

Thats interesting I tried one of those in my Alde and it did not work, well did but hit and miss. Pleased that it works in the iNet.

Well I read the instructions for installing the SIM card and read insert the mini sim in the slot provided. Already knew there were three sizes, so inserted my micro card confidently into slot provided.
Bollocks it’s the wrong size , should have a standard Sim fitted. Had to dismantle the box to retrieve it again ?

I recall doing something similar, but luckily managed to retrieve it with a pair of tweezers.

I use a Lebara SIM, it was an exclusive deal from uSwitch. It's a recurring 30 day contract at £3.95 per month for unlimited texts. It's not as cheap as PAYG but I do use it a lot and I don't have to remember to top up every 6 months. It worked in France as well which I wasn't sure about until I tried it.

It's very handy to be able to control the heating remotely and interrogate the status of the batteries etc. I would definitely recommend it.

It's odd though that the texts you get back from iNet are unnecessarily verbose (e.g. 'Hello Henry..... Regards your iNet box). This means some responses spread over two texts which presumably means those using PAYG pay for two texts when it could have been fitted into one.

My O2 PAYG only uses 1 text and no need to top up every 6 months if in credit. All you need to do is use ‘chargeable activity’ at least once in any six month period e.g. sent a status request to your iNet box.

That sounds like 'Simply PAYG' or 'Classic PAYG' which are now both discontinued to new customers.

I don't think their current offering is as generous. I haven't looked in detail but it looks like any credit expires after 30 days.

When I interrogate Vehicle Status the response is too long to fit as one text so it comes as two separate texts. I would have thought the SIM would charge that as two texts not one but not being on PAYG I'm not sure.

Yes, mine (Classic) seemed to be a good deal, but as you say probably discontinued, shame. This is the text generated by my iNet

That’s interesting, I wonder why you get more info than me? A bit of investigation required I think.

I’ve taken a look at the iNet & CP Plus manual and there is no reference whatsoever to the vehicle status report. Mine was new when purchased (2018) so I just assumed what I got was standard. However I now realise that starter battery and water/waste tank data should be available?
Device manager settings on mine are: hardware version 1.3.1, firmware 2.5.0, App version 4.7.0
TIN1 - CP plus iNet ready, Combi 4 E
Are your settings the same?

Thanks, hopefully all stay safe and WELL for the discussion and info share to continue

I know it sounds a bit daft but one of the things we we’re hoping for from inet is to be advised if say the aircon has failed or the van temp is less or greater than X.

You can set the inet box to text you if the temp goes above or below your preset limit but you can only set it when you're within bluetooth range.
Also, it will only inform you once then you need to reset it again (a flaw in my opinion) but it does work well.

I have reviewed the install manual and I can see how you get ancillary, non Truma/Alde kit data, like tanks. Here is the line from the connection list.

Bus adapter – X Interface modules to third-party providers e.g. Schaudt AD94, SCI101, SCI109.

Via TIN2 from Schaudt kit it seems. I don't have that in my Morelo, however those reading this thread may want to explore connection to their Schaudt box if they have them.
In that regard are there any other third party connections that work on TIN2 that anyone knows of as maybe Schaudt is not the exhaustive option?

I dont get tank information on mine either, but then mine is an alde unit which is compatible not a truma unit. I cannot even control mine via bluetooth as they still have not fixed the issue with the iphone 11 which has been ongoing since last september. I can still use text though so not all is lost, i use a giffgaff sim which uses o2 network on payg. This worked for me in Spain and Portugal last year and always seems to work where i am, never fails to receive a text from it.

I use giffgaff card in mine . As my mobile is giffgaff too I just need to top up £6 every 3 months.

My Device Manager settings are as follows:
Hardware version 1.3.4, firmware 2.5.0, App version 4.7.0
TIN1 - CP plus Combi 6
TIN2 - Hymer AD94

I've no idea how it's set up in terms of monitoring the tanks as iNet was installed at the factory from new when I bought the vehicle.

See my post, I suspect you have a Schaudt box which the factory connects to the iNet.

Lenny HB Hi Lenny, can you review this thread? Do Hymers have a Schaudt box, as Henry has a Hymer.

Just found the following reference to the LMC iBus which allows vehicle information to be displayed via the Truma App

  • The app shows the outside temperature and indicates whether there is a connection to the mains supply.
  • It is also possible to display the charging status of the starter battery and the battery inside the vehicle including state of charge, voltage and charging and discharging current.
  • A water and waste water display shows the filling level of the tanks in 25% steps.
  • If customers have the gas pressure regulator for two cylinders Truma DuoControl (CS) and the remote display DuoC on board, the Truma app will indicate whether or not EisEx is switched on. This protects the regulator from icing up at low temperatures. The Truma app also indicates whether the regulator system has already switched from the main cylinder to the reserve cylinder.
“The new, innovative features are available in the Truma app via the 'Status' field. They are only visible to LMC customers that have installed the LMC iBus connect and the Truma iNet System in their vehicles.”

So, seems I need a LMC iBus, but no idea what that involves in relation to my CP Plus system or if retro fitting is an option, or is all this just a Hymer thing only?

Hi Michael, you really didn't expect me to be up that early did you?
I see Henry has already answered, like all Mercs with the smart alternator they fit the Schaudt B2B.

Suppose not, with nothing to do and nowhere to go!
