Having problems with my heating. When I run the heating on combined gas/electric I get an error code come up after about 30 to 45 minutes. The heating temperture is set at 25degrees. The error code is W401H which when I look it up on the Truma site it says water is overheating. I do not have the water heating on at the same time but the water is extremely hot. Is this a fault or operator error? All suggestions gratefully recieved. Cheers. Dave.

May be the high temp stat is letting the water too hot before shutting the gas/electric off

Exactly the same but why is the heating blowing cold air out and water is boiling hot after short periods

Taffy333 ,According to the Truma fault code list W401H indicates - Summer mode with empty water container - , is it possible that the control is on the wrong setting ?
I run the boiler via a whaler so constant water but even with water not on the water is being heated up to scalding temperatures

If we are talking about a Truma Combi it is normal for the water to get hot when the heating is on and the hot water is off. They share the same heating chamber so the hot water gets warmed by either gas or electricity whenever the boiler is running.

The heating gets warm then turns itself to blowing out cold air then switches to the w401 h fault it has only just started doing this we have had the van from new three years old

If ours overheats it shuts down the heat input and blows air through the unit whilst it cools it down. The blown air runs cool before that too shuts down. Check that nothing is blocking any of the vents and that dust has not accumulated within and around the Combi inlet.

Hi Dave, did you manage to get this sorted yet? I’ve got exact same problem although it’s been dragging on for a while just not managed to get down to the actual problem of what’s causing it yet. Truma replied to me saying fault code 401 is a warning code to indicate that the unit is in a cool down phase and will generally disappear when the heat exchanger of the heater has cooled a little.

I am having the exact same problem. Water is scolding hot (switched to off) heating keeps cutting out and blowing cold. Is it possible to adjust water temp ? It’s driving me insane as was freezing on Fri night ! Many thanks 😊

I still have the problem and although it will be ok when it has cooled down the heating is off in that time and it soon gets cold in the van.

If you have water in the boiler , Have you tried running it with the hot water setting on , along with air heating , to allow the hot water to be controlled by its temperature thermostat , which I do not think happens if running air heating alone .

The display is showing the hot water on eco which is 40c( High is 60c) yet you say the water is scalding. What happens if you turn the hot water off? Starting to sound like a thermostat issue.

Hi, did you manage to resolve this issue? I’m getting the same error code, … 3yr old van like yours!
It doesn‘t matter whether the hot water is on or off, I still get the error message. Like yours the water gets red hot even when switched off. Thanks

Also had this problem, our shower room always gets really warm and had closed the vents in there before starting the heater, after reading the on line manual i made sure all vents, even garage ones, were open at start up, didn't seem to cause a problem when i closed them off once heating was up and running ok. Might have been a fluke though.

Hi, I am having the same issue, any updates on a fix?

Hi, I had this over the weekend, and have narrowed it down to the following (in my opinion) ...the water ran low, but the pump was still on, as was the heating. What little water was in the tank was pushed to the boiler (but with a lot of air). Even though the water heater was off, as someone said earlier it will still be hot if the heating is on. So what water there was in the boiler was overheated, the thing went into cool mode and blew out cool air, with W401H. The first time it happened I let some water out of the tap and it stopped, but not the second time (probably even less water in the system then!). So, if the water is out, and the heating is on, turn off the pump! I may try and replicate the scenrio and see if I can get the same error code.
